Many people get excited about autographed sports memorabilia when they find it for a good price, and as a result, many people purchase so called authentic autographed sports memorabilia without investigating the authenticity of said memorabilia. The question that all buyers should be asking when shopping for autographed sports memorabilia online or in person is whether or not the memorabilia is authentic, or rather, whether or not the autograph is authentic.
Unfortunately, there has been a recent proliferation of fraudulent autographed sports memorabilia in the marketplace today. As a result, one of the main considerations to make when it comes to purchasing any type of autographed memorabilia is to verify the authenticity of said item. Unless you have personally witnessed the autographing of the item, it will be hard to be completely 100% sure that your autographed sports memorabilia is in fact legitimate.
For most fans and collectors, getting an autographed piece of memorabilia is not necessarily viable. As a result, many people rely on the ability to purchase autographed sports memorabilia through online and brick and mortar retailers, and they are left to wonder if the memorabilia they are purchasing is legitimate or not. If you’re a collector of autographed sports memorabilia and you are having trouble acquiring the autographs that you seek, then what are you left to do?
- * When buying autographed sports memorabilia, you should be aiming to deal with reputable sources that actually conduct the autograph signing themselves including for example Steiner Sports, Upper Deck and Mounted Memories.
- * When it comes to purchasing autographed sports memorabilia, you should always look for a COA, which stands for certificate of authenticity. Buyers need to be careful to make sure that the certificate of authenticity truly is suggesting that the item is authentic, which means that the certificate of authenticity should also be authentic. The most significant thing to look out for when it comes to a certificate of authenticity is who is actually responsible for issuing the certificate.
- * You absolutely need to make sure that the item and the certificate of authenticity align with one another. There should be a company hologram on the COA. Many of today’s athletes have their own special holograms and COAs, meaning you can make sure that the merchandise is authentic before you purchase it. A few years ago this was not the case, and as a result, many fraudulent pieces of autographed sports memorabilia were being released using legitimate COAs, but this is no longer happening. Sports stars and the companies releasing their memorabilia are definitely taking steps to make sure that collectors are not going to be ripped off or misled, but it is still vital that collectors do their due diligence when it comes to autographed sports memorabilia.
