When it comes to high value sports related collectibles, sports autographs are among the best. Whether it’s an autographed baseball bat, basketball jersey or a football helmet, autographed merchandise can be worth its weight in gold. If you are interested in getting some sports autographs, but you don’t know where to look, here’s a quick guide to help you build up your collection.
1. Right from the source
One of the easiest ways to get sports autographs is simply to go to games and ask the players for them directly. Most will more than willing to offer autographs, but it is best to wait until after the game is over before you approach them. The majority of arenas will have an area set up where the fans can interact with the players. It will be up to the individual players as to whether or not they will actually sign something, but most will. This is the most economical way to get a sports autograph, since you will only need to purchase the item that you want to have signed. As a plus, these autographs are often personalized, making them even more special to the collector.
2. From licensed vendors
You can get authentic sports autographs from licensed vendors that have worked out an agreement either with a certain league or with an individual player. These stores will typically have a wide variety of merchandise available and it is fairly easy to get a hold of a popular player’s autograph this way. The major downside for many consumers is that these stores do charge premium prices for the merchandise they sell.
3. From other private collectors
If you are looking for vintage or rare sports autographs, this is a great way to find them. Private collectors will sometimes have a disbursement sale, or you can attend auctions and pick up some great deals. Once again, the prices will probably be a little high, but you will have access to a wide variety of different types of autographed merchandise.
4. At online auctions
This has become one of the most popular ways to get sports autographs. You can find literally thousands of different autographs online and many sellers have built up a great reputation for providing authentic merchandise. However, it is smart to be cautious when buying sports memorabilia online since there are some sellers that do take advantage of people. Ask for certificates of authenticity, or have the item appraised before you buy to ensure that you are getting authentic autographs.
These are just a few ways that the average collector can get their hands on sports autographs. Wherever you shop, just take the time to do your homework to make sure that you are getting a real piece of sports memorabilia. By following this step, you can be assured that your autograph will have more than just sentimental value.
Collecting sports autographs is a great hobby for kids and can help them get involved in sports. In addition, it serves as a great way to spend more quality time with your kids.

Out of all of the different kinds of memorabilia, perhaps the one that collectors seek the most is sports memorabilia. There is something special about finding that special item from a player you admire, or a memento from a game that meant something special to you. Sports memorabilia holds a very strong emotional attachment for some people, but above all, it can be incredibly valuable.
There are specific types of sports memorabilia that can sell for millions of dollars. Whether it is a signed game ball, an autographed jersey or a special card of a player, this memorabilia does hold a tremendous amount of value. If you are looking for a great type of collectible, or you are a sports fan, there are a few things to know about before you get started.
1. Authenticity is key.
Due to the amount of money that sellers can make with sports memorabilia, it is vital to make sure that you are dealing with authentic merchandise. Most sports leagues will have authorized outlets that handle special autographs and other sports memorabilia. This is done to provide buyers with a seller that they can trust. Typically, the memorabilia will come with a certificate or a tag that states it is officially licensed, or that is has been deemed to be authentic.
However, as technology expands, it’s becoming easier for counterfeiters to make these documents and tags up. However, there are a few more ways to determine whether or not sports memorabilia is in fact authentic.
2. The price matters.
If a price is too good to be true, it’s best to walk away. Once again, the licensing companies typically have a set price for specific types of sports memorabilia and there won’t be a lot of variation. If you are buying from a private collector, it is best to think long and hard about your purchase, especially if they have no real way of verifying the authenticity of the item.
Since counterfeiters can make these items very easily, they will simply sell them for a greatly reduced fee and make it up in volume. While you can find some great deals on sports memorabilia, just remember that if the price is too low, you may be better off saving your money.
3. Get an appraisal.
Just because a seller states that a specific piece of sports memorabilia is worth X amount of dollars doesn’t mean that it is true. For a high value item, or if you are simply curious about the real value, consider getting an appraisal. There are many places online where you can submit a picture or even an auction listing and get a quick response from an expert on what the true value is.
In fact, many sellers may even include their own appraisal certificate in the auction. Make sure to verify the amounts, since once again, it is all too easy to come up with a fake certificate.
With care, you can collect sports memorabilia that is not only special to you, but worth a lot of money.

Collecting football memorabilia is a passion for thousands of people and whether you are a huge fan of the sport, or you admire certain athletes, there are many different items that are considered to be highly collectible. It’s easy to enhance your personal collection with many different football memorabilia items and it’s also a lot of fun to see just how many you can find. Here are some of the best and most valuable kinds of football memorabilia.
1. Jerseys
Finding an autographed jersey from your favorite player is a great event and for many, this is the ultimate of fandom. If you’re trying to find an autographed piece of football memorabilia, this is quite possibly one of the best forms to go with. Demand is quite high for many players, but you never know what you may come across. You can start with players that you’re already familiar with, and then move onto collect the rest of the jerseys from other popular members of the team. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye out for any rare autographed jersey since they are very valuable.
2. Game Balls
Out of all of the types of football memorabilia you can find, autographed game balls may just be the best. You can find specific game balls that are from very important events like the super bowl, or you can go a little deeper and get one from a player that you enjoy following or from a specific game that meant a lot to you. These items can be very expensive, especially if they were used in a super bowl, pro bowl or any other game of national or historic note.
3. Helmets
These are a great piece of football memorabilia that are not only fun to display, but they may also be quite valuable. Replicas are very common however and will usually have a much lower price tag than originals. All collectors dream of being the one to score an autographed helmet from their favorite player, but this is no easy task if you’re looking for an original. You can usually find these rare items at auction, or players may even sell them directly or through their fan clubs.
4. Ticket Stubs
These may not be necessarily of great monetary value, but as football memorabilia goes, they can have a high emotional value. Consider looking for an autographed ticket stub from one of your favorite players from a game in your area, or even from the super bowl. The bigger the game was, the better your chances are of landing a great collector’s item.
Keep your eye out for new football memorabilia as the new season kicks off. There are a lot of great teams this year and many old favorite players are now back in the game. This promises to be a great year for football memorabilia collectors and you should be able to find plenty of these items in stores and at online auctions this year.

September 11th, 2009 — Olympic Memorabilia, Original Autographs, Sports, Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics
When it comes to sporting events, there are few that capture the hearts and minds of the people as much as the Olympics. As such, the popularity of Olympic memorabilia continues to rise. If you are looking for a unique piece of memorabilia that was a part in a world wide phenomenon, valuable and fun to discuss, these are some of the best items to collect. Since the Olympics only happen every few years, it can be difficult to find some of the rarer collectibles, but with careful shopping, you can have some success. Here are some tips to help you on your search and to make sure you end up with authentic Olympic memorabilia.
1. Start with a licensed dealer.
The easiest way to find Olympic memorabilia is to look for a licensed dealer. Many states will have shops that work with the IOCC on releasing certain pieces to the public. Typically, these dealers will carry a mix of rare and common collectibles that will range from pins, to shirts, and even to items used by the actual athletes that competed in the games.
2. Look online.
Online auction sites are a treasure trove that can contain some of the best Olympic memorabilia. This is mainly due to the fact that stores around the world can post their merchandise and you have access to a much wider selection than normal. When shopping with an online merchant, make sure that they have good feedback and a history of providing authentic merchandise. News travels quickly online and generally, if someone was defrauded by a seller, there will be a way to easily find out.
3. Decide what you are looking for.
Your search will be a lot easier if you have a specific date in mind or a specific Olympics. You can narrow it down even further by event for certain types of Olympic memorabilia, or you can keep your options open to help you find more options. This is an important step for any collector to take. If you are looking for autographs, make sure you have the correct name of the athlete as well as the events that they competed in to make your search easier. It is also helpful to decide whether you want to collect summer or winter Olympic memorabilia.
4. Keep looking.
If you don’t find the right Olympic memorabilia the first time you start looking, don’t give up hope. This is a very popular type of collectible and generally you will be able to find many new items on a continuous basis. The best collectors keep checking back week after week until they find the pieces they are looking for. With a little luck and a lot of perseverance, finding the right Olympic memorabilia is easy.
If you love sports, this is a great way to express your devotion and celebrate the achievements of your favorite athletes, or the countries they represent. Finding a rare autograph from a competitor in these games is quite a lot of fun and many are quite valuable.
