Lincoln Wheat (1909-1958) Small Cents Coins: US Coins & Paper Money
The Lincoln Wheat cent was the currency representing one cent of United States currency produced from 1908 to 1958. The ‘wheat’ name on the Lincoln penny comes from the ears of wheat on the back side of the coin. The Lincoln Wheat cent is also sometimes referred to as a Wheat penny, a Wheatback, a Wheat Head, or a Wheatie. Victor D. Brenner’s, the New York sculptor’s design at the early conception of the Lincoln Wheat cent included his initials “VDB”, but after public very vocal disdain for the cent, it was changed. In 1959, the wheat stalks on the back of the cent was changed to the Lincoln Memorial.Discount & Bargain
