Lincoln Memorial (1959-Now) Small Cents Coins: US Coins & Paper Money
The Lincoln Memorial cent has been around since 1959, and was issued as a replacement to the Lincoln Wheat coin. This cent is an amazing piece of work. The front was designed in 1909 by Victor D. Brenner, and the back side was designed by a man by the name of Frank Gasparro. The Lincoln Memorial cent is actually the first coin in American history to bear a portrait other than that of the Lady Liberty.Discount & Bargain
The American public of that time was not fond of using portraits on the currency of its country, but at the time it was designed in remembrance of Abraham Lincolns birth one hundred years before. For that, the country let go of its prejudices due to the fact of what he accomplished during his presidency. Another first for the Lincoln Memorial cent was that on the coin it was the first time that the motto In God We Trust was ever seen on a coin of the denomination, passed after an Act in Congress during Lincolns presidency. After the coin was sent to the Department of Treasury for the approval of the coin, it was released on August 2nd. The coin has looked relatively similar throughout the years, in 1969, it was revised to look more like Lincoln.
We at this website have some very incredible looking specimens available in the Lincoln Memorial cent. As with all of other currency and collectibles, we assure you that these coins are in the best possible condition provided.
