Draped Bust (1796-1807) Large Cents Coins: US Coins & Paper Money

Designed by Chief Engraver Robert Scot, the Draped Bust (1796-1807), the design of this coin actually came from a headdress that was worn in the 1790s. Many individuals made the mistake of thinking the image portrayed was of an ancient Roman model, when in fact, the model was only a few years old. This coin has been one of the most interesting ever minted in the U.S. In addition, during the 1797 minting, only 20 of the original 427 pieces are thought to have survived to present day. All avid collectors should be on the watch for these rare coins to add to his or her collection.
