The King George VI series of small cents was circulated from 1937 to 1952 while a young Queen Elizabeth II adorned the small cents issued from 1953 to 1964. An updated Queen Elizabeth II graced the small cents from 1965 to 1981. From 1982 to 1989, Canada small cents were known as the multisided cent. A crowned Queen Elizabeth II is featured on Canadian small cents from 1990 to 1996. A new design of the queen is pictured on the plain-edged small cents minted from 1997 to 2002.
