Television fans have always collected scrapbooks of ads and flyers, but more recently these have become collectible in their own right. It is rare for TV shows to have flyers or postcards, but sometimes these were handed out on the street in major cities. More common, however are ads in magazines, newspapers and other media. Television shows have also been known to promote themselves by inserting flyers into magazines and Sunday papers. Often these can be clippings.

Television ads can be run anywhere, in any medium. Their ephemeral nature makes them scarce and therefore collectible. Ads and flyers can be chosen from a great variety of sources. If you are just beginning to collect ads and flyers, be selective when selecting your theme or you will be buried under an avalanche of ads and flyers. Also, you will want to be careful to keep your collection organized or you face the same risk of interment. Choose a theme according to what you like best, as no one can predict what Television ads and flyers will be considered collectible in the future.
The cardinal rule of television memorabilia collecting applies to ads and flyers as well—always go for quality rather than quantity. Keep your ads and flyers in pristine mint condition as they will hold their value far better in the long run. You may not be collecting ads and flyers the intention of reselling them, but if you find yourself ever needing or wanting to sell it you will be glad you kept the ads and flyers in top condition.
