Jazz has a rich and storied history, from its origins in the late nineteenth century until the present day. Jazz is an enduring art form. The market for jazz memorabilia is smaller than that for rock, pop and country music, but jazz memorabilia collectors are fairly obsessive. This means that collectors often hang on to their collections rather than sell off items. Its a niche genre with limited appeal but its enthusiasts are rabid.Discount & Bargain
Items and instruments used by the iconic figures of jazz, especially the titans of the 50s and 60s like John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and Eric Dolphy, tend to go for very high prices. jazz players have rarely attained the kind of wealth or celebrity of their colleagues in rock, which has impacted both the availability and prices of collectable items.
Unreleased tapes, either of performances or studio work that never saw the light of day, are an exciting option for jazz fans. With some digging, and good contacts, these arent too hard for a jazz fan to find. Price will vary depending on the artists- the more famous, the more the tapes will cost, but in addition to being collectible, due to the improvised nature of jazz, you will have some one-of-a-kind music. If you collect enough unreleased tapes of a major artist, such as Thelonious Monk, who knowsyou may be able to approach a record label who will be interested in releasing a CD based on your tape collection!
