October 12th, 2009 — Celebrity, Celebrity Autographs, Original Autographs, autographs
Right now, collecting rare memorabilia is on the rise, and this particular practice gains even more attention when it comes to collecting rare memorabilia that once belonged to a great singer, actor or actress or some other famous individual that has recently or even not so recently passed away. Why this is so important is because when somebody who is famous passes away, it makes the already rare memorabilia surrounding that person even rarer, since items are now harder to come by and can no longer be produced.
There are a number of different pieces of rare memorabilia that you can collect, such as autographed photographs, autographed pieces of memorabilia, apparel, signed CDs and discs, posters, props and instruments from the stage of a show, signed set lists, props from television shows and movies and so on and so forth. There are really an endless variety of different pieces of rare memorabilia out there – What makes them so rare is whether or not it is easy to find more.
Once a celebrity has passed away, the memorabilia that is signed by them becomes much rarer because no more autographs can be obtained. This is something that you are going to want to consider if you are collecting rare memorabilia. As pieces becoming increasingly rare, they are going to be more expensive and harder to find. If you can get your hands on them as they become rarer, then you will be the one profiting from their worth, rather than being the one struggling to find the pieces of rare memorabilia that you are looking for.
There are a lot of websites on the internet that are offering authentic collections of rare memorabilia pieces from different famous people all throughout the world and the media. It is important when shopping for rare memorabilia that you are cautious of scammers and people that are trying to take your hard earned money. Make sure that any rare memorabilia that you buy is authentic by any possible means before you make the purchase so that you can protect yourself from possibly being ripped off.
There is a large online market for rare memorabilia, just make sure that you are buying legitimate rare memorabilia rather than knock-offs. When you find collectible rare memorabilia online, you should be dealing with authentic dealers that you can trust, or websites where you are protected such as eBay, where if you are ripped off you can get your money back through insurance. It is really important that you protect yourself, because buying a piece of rare memorabilia can be really rewarding, but getting ripped off is anything but.

September 16th, 2009 — Bon Jovi Posters, Music Memorabilia, Rock and Pop
One of the biggest rock bands of the 1980’s is still popular today and as such, many people are still trying to find their posters. Whether you are a new fan of the group, or you remember a certain poster that you had of them back in the 1980’s or 1990’s, it’s a lot of fun to see if you can track down a Bon Jovi poster for your own private collection. These may not be incredibly valuable when it comes to actual price, but when it comes to emotional value, they are very valuable indeed to many collectors.
Before you purchase a Bon Jovi poster, here are a few things to think about.
1. What is the overall condition of the poster?
In order to make sure that you will be getting the best value for your money, you’ll need to make sure that the Bon Jovi poster is in good condition. Try to find one that does not have rips or tears, or any tape marks on it. If the poster is used, that may be pretty hard, but you can come across some every once in awhile. Ideally, the poster should not be used, but those can be nearly impossible to find.
2. Is the Bon Jovi poster autographed?
In order to get a poster that is really valuable, it’s a good idea to see if you can find one that has been autographed. These can be worth thousands, depending on the condition of the poster and when it was signed. If you’re serious about collecting this type of memorabilia, it’s best to hold off and wait for that autographed copy. You may end up paying a little more for it initially, but it will be worth more over time, especially if you keep it in good condition.
3. Is the poster original?
This has become quite a problem lately, thanks to the wide availability of wide format printers and graphic artists. In order to make sure you are getting an authentic Bon Jovi poster, you may need to research the seller and ask to see a copy of the back of the poster before you buy it. If the price seems to be a bit low, or if the seller has several copies of the same poster for sale, chances are it is a reproduction and although you may find it valuable personally, it’s overall value will be nil.
4. When was the poster made?
The newer Bon Jovi posters aren’t worth as much as the ones that were produced when the band first made it big. In order to make sure you are getting a great deal, look for older posters from the 1980’s. They are not the easiest to find, but you will be able to score a great deal if you do come across one.
Start shopping for your Bon Jovi poster and see if you can’t uncover a rare deal – or even a signed copy for your collection.

September 9th, 2009 — Ballet Memorabilia, Ballet Posters, Music Memorabilia
For a budding ballerina, there is nothing quite like the inspiration that can come from looking at a ballet poster. These works of art inspire, and for collectors, they are a way of enjoying and expressing a love for this amazing form of expression. If you love ballet, or if you are just looking for a graceful collectible, ballet posters are an excellent solution.
When you are shopping for a ballet poster, it is important to find out a few things first.
1. What performance is the poster from?
For example, a ballet poster that features a historic performance by Rudolph Nureyev or Margo Fontaine is going to be worth a lot more than a poster featuring dancers from Hoboken. Look for this information, which should be contained at the bottom of the poster. If you don’t see it, you may want to ask the seller for more information. However, most legitimate ballet posters will always contain not only the performance but the date that it was held. While a poster featuring dancers from Hoboken may be special to some, it is important to make sure that you know what you are getting before you buy it.
2. Who are the dancers featured?
Once again, we fall back into the fact that certain ballet posters that feature well known dancers are simply going to be more valuable. This is particularly true for those that follow a specific dancer’s career and collect memorabilia items celebrating certain accomplishments or performances. The poster should indicate the dancer that is pictured, but if it doesn’t, you may be able to tell simply by looking at it who is pictured.
3. Does the poster come with a frame?
This is more of a logical question, but the type of frame that contains the ballet poster can have a big impact on its overall value. For example, a gilt edged frame will be worth much more than one that was purchased at a local dollar store. Always try to find posters that are either already in valuable frames, or that will fit the frame you already own and would like to use.
4. What condition is the poster in?
Older posters will typically have a bit of wear and tear, but in many cases, you’ll be able to find a truly rare item that may have a rip or two. Always figure in the overall condition of a ballet poster, especially if you are buying from a private collector instead of a store. Look for small marks, folds or anything that may bring down the overall visual appeal of the poster, as well as the value.
A torn ballet poster may have sentimental value to some collectors, but it is always a good idea to try to get the best quality one that you can find. Posters do wear quite a bit, especially if they are not framed, so you can expect most vintage ballet posters to have a little bit of ear.

September 7th, 2009 — Memorabilia, Movie Memorabilia

Movies touch our hearts, inspire our souls and transport us on an incredible journey. It’s no wonder that movie memorabilia has become so incredibly popular throughout the years. You’ll find numerous different types of movie memorabilia that range from simple posters, to theater cards, as well as special set pieces, props, wardrobe and other collectible items from specific productions.
Whenever you are shopping for movie memorabilia, there are a few things to keep in mind. Due to the overwhelming popularity for these kinds of collectibles there is unfortunately a big market for counterfeiters and those that are less than honest. Whether you are collecting movie memorabilia for your own personal enjoyment, or as a serious collector, it pays to have the facts you need on hand to make sure that you are getting an authentic piece of movie history. Here’s what you need to know.
1. Can you trust the seller?
Movie studios will often work with certain sellers on a regular basis when they need to get rid of movie memorabilia. These sellers are usually very trustworthy and have a long history of providing quality collectibles that are authentic and in good condition. If you are really concerned over whether or not you’ll end up with a good piece, it’s probably best to do your shopping with one of these sellers.
However, there are also many small companies or private collectors that have unique pieces or entire collections. They can also have some great authentic movie memorabilia, but you may need to do a little extra legwork to authenticate the pieces. You can find some terrific collectibles through private sales, but you do need to exercise a little caution to make sure that you are getting a good deal.
2. High Ticket items should always be appraised.
It goes without saying that if you are dealing with a high ticket piece of movie memorabilia, it will need to be appraised. This is a smart choice that can save you thousands of dollars. If you are buying your movie memorabilia online, you can actually get an online appraisal in a few hours or days that is generally reliable and will help you determine the actual value of the piece you are looking at.
3. Is the autograph a reprint or is the poster a reprint?
The easy availability of wide format printers, scanners and digital software capable of reproducing old images has meant that there are quite a few reproductions on the movie memorabilia market. If the price for a poster, autographed reprint or something similar is too low, be cautious. Also, you may want to check listings for identical items to see just how many of them are out there. This is a great technique with online auctions that can save you a bundle.
You can easily start collecting movie memorabilia by deciding what type you are interested in, and what movies touched you. From there, you should be able to build up quite a collection of movie memorabilia.
