Collectible Pins as Disney Memorabilia

piratemickeyOne of the ways that you can identify collectible pins as collectible Disney memorabilia is to look at the pin back. Depending on what era the pin is from, you are going to find that the pin backs can tell you a lot about this unique type of Disney memorabilia.

- * Rubber Black Mickey Shape Pin Back –
This is the most common pin back that is used by the Disney company for Disney memorabilia.

- * Metal Squeezing Clasp Pin Back – These Disney memorabilia pin backs were used for a number of the pins that were sold prior to the year 2000. They are available in silver color and gold color and they have been used relatively indiscriminately by Disney. Some double posted pins have come with one pin featuring a different colored pin back right out of the package.

- * Shaped Rubber Backs – Over quite a long time, Disney made use of golden colored rubber backs that were round in shape. In the more decent days, these pin backs have come in a wide variety of additional shapes and colors as well. Disney offers Disney memorabilia catalog pins that use a back that is small and shaped like a diamond. Disney actually also markets replacement pin backs that come in a wide variety of different styles and shapes as well. Depending on the park and the time period, there are also brown backs and yellow backs as well.

- * Tie-Tack Backs - These Disney memorabilia pin backs were used for a short period of time around the 1990s. During this period of time Disney experimented using the same clasps that they were using on tie tacks. These pin backs were certainly effective but they also happened to be bulky and heavy.

- * Screw-On Locking Backs - On a few of the Disney memorabilia pins, including the stick pins originating from the 1970s, the Disney company experimented with these screw on backs that were quite effective but also expensive.

- * Standard Pin Clasps - These Disney memorabilia pin backs come on pins that hail from the early part of the 1990s and before then. They are more like the traditional pin back for a brooch, utilizing a clasp that holds the pin in place. They are secure, but they are often too difficult to put on and then take off again.

The main thing that you need to remember when it comes to Disney memorabilia and pin backs is this: Unless the pin happens to be very rare, the pin back you have is not going to be nearly as important. There are a few pin purists that will argue this particular point, but in the grand scheme of things, it is the pin front that matters rather than the pin back.

Broadway Souvenir Programs

Memorabilia -> Theater Memorabilia -> Playbills

For fans of Broadway, musicals, specific plays or actors, or entertainment in general, Broadway souvenir programs are a great collectible item. We’ve all been to a play or concert, maybe a production filled with school kids, where programs are handed out at the door. They list the names of the songs to be played or sung, or a little information about the play or musical, and all the names of the musicians, dancers and actors to appear. Broadway souvenir programs, however, are sold as you’re entering a show, rather than handed out for free.

Lots of souvenirs can be found for sale at every Broadway show. T-shirts, maybe even soundtracks for long-running shows, pictures of the cast, calendars, mugs, hats—you name it, it’s there for sale. But especially for people who attend a lot of shows and love the souvenirs, Broadway souvenir programs don’t take up much space, they’re light, and they encapsulate the entire entertainment experience in one small book.

Right at your fingertips you’ll have full color pictures from the production, a cast list with some information about each actor, information about the show itself and more. It’s a great way to remember a great performance for years to come. And if you can catch actors at the stage door, or maybe find your way to an official signing, you can have your Broadway souvenir programs autographed, giving them even more significance to you and value as part of a Broadway collection.

Some people, however, might not be interested in the Broadway show, or it might be a show that’s been closed for years, but they want Broadway souvenir programs from the productions as collector items. Whether they were a fan of the show or just an actor in it, or they’re collecting programs from the Broadway shows available during a certain period of time, the programs must be purchased from dealers or other collectors. Another option is to look for different versions of the same Broadway souvenir programs. Many long-running shows constantly update their programs, making the discovery of older versions a fun challenge for avid collectors.

For most current and recent Broadway souvenir programs, Playbill, the exclusive Broadway magazine, offers many official Broadway programs for sale online. This is a great source for those currently running or recently closed programs you’d like to add to your collection. Online auctions, as usual, are a great place to find vintage Broadway souvenir programs, with or without autographs. For those that are autographed, compare the photo of the signature carefully to one that you know is authentic.

Also, note the seller’s other inventory. Do they look suspicious because they have 40 Boy from Oz Broadway souvenir programs all supposedly signed by Hugh Jackman? Have they sold the same item before, or is the one you’re considering the only one available? What is the likelihood that one person or company has 10 programs signed by Liza Minelli? Use your good judgment when purchasing these items online.

Benefits of Collecting Autographed Memorabilia

autographsCollecting autographed memorabilia is a hobby that can be enjoyable whether or not you are actually into sports collectibles or collecting other types of memorabilia for that mater. Collecting autographed memorabilia, in fact, has become a fad among pretty much everyone because collecting autographed memorabilia is a great way to build worth in something. This is so true, that autographed memorabilia has become a sensible method of investment for many people, but before you make an investment in autographed memorabilia you need to understand what things are actually going to guarantee returns and what purchases are not going to benefit you at all. There is a wide variety of sports memorabilia and other types of autographed memorabilia for you to choose from. In terms of sports memorabilia alone, there is boxing, football, soccer, baseball and any other sport imaginable for you to choose from.

The biggest attraction when it comes to investing in sports autographed memorabilia is that it can appreciate tremendously in price in comparison to other types of investments. No matter what type of autographed memorabilia you have, your autographed memorabilia is likely going to become worth more with time. Not only will autographed memorabilia items have a money back guarantee in place essentially, but these items are also going to grow significantly in price over a period of time.

The biggest catch when it comes to sports autographed memorabilia is knowing how to find authentic pieces of memorabilia since there are fakes out there doing the rounds within the market. These knock off pieces of autographed memorabilia can really mess up your ability to invest if you are not careful about the investments that you make. As a result, it is vitally important that you purchase your autographed memorabilia from reputable and reliable sources as well as recognized outlets. You can insist on receiving an authenticity certificate with your autographed memorabilia in order to make sure that what you are getting is legitimate, as well.

Buying autographed memorabilia has really become a trendy option for investing, and it is something that you can use to teach family members and children about investing as well. Basically, when you invest in autographed memorabilia you are ensuring a guaranteed return because autographed memorabilia is highly likely to appreciate in price over time. This is a great bet for you to make if you want to preserve some of the best moments in the history of sports, passing it down from generation to generation and watching it grow in price through the years. This is a great way to involve your entire family in investing and a hobby that can bring your family joy and future wealth. If you are not already investing in autographed sports memorabilia, why not?

Tips on Collecting Memorabilia

darthvaderIf you have been thinking about starting a Entertainment memorabilia collection, then there are some very important guidelines you should keep in mind. Remember whether you collect for the investment, or for your own enjoyment. Regardless of which, you should still only buy that which you truly enjoy. While there are definitely trends in the varying collectors markets, it can be difficult to call any of them a sure bet when looking from an investors point of view. While many segments of the memorabilia market has shown growth, there are never any guarantees. By collecting that which you truly enjoy, you build yourself a bit of a defense against lack of market appreciation. If you collect things solely for worth, and they do not appreciate, you are left holding something you cannot even have a personal worth in.

Another general principle to consider when it comes to collecting memorabilia is that you should be attempting to buy the best pieces that are available within your price range. Although it may be tempting for you to consider acquiring as many items as you possibly can in the shortest possible period of time in order to get the ball rolling on your collection, you should be taking your time and trying to buy one really great piece every year rather than trying to buy a number of pieces that are more mediocre in terms of quality.

Quality versus quantity is something that should be your mantra when it comes to collecting memorabilia. In a period of ten years’ time, your collection is going to command a much greater level of respect if you contain just a few really exceptional pieces rather than a larger number of pieces that are merely average in nature.

When it comes to going shopping, one of the most important things that you are going to want to keep in mind is provenance. When you do some due diligence on the material’s source as well as the story that surrounds it, then you will be better able to protect yourself from being a victim of fraud, and there is plenty of fraud out there. There is a magazine known as Forbes Collector Magazine which reported in the year 2004 that as many as 75% to 90% of all autographs that are sold on eBay are fraudulent according to experts. You need to know your source, and you need to choose reputable auction houses and dealers when purchasing memorabilia to collect.

Many of the pieces of memorabilia that are being sold online come with a letter of authenticity, or a certificate of authenticity. Make sure that this is really a legitimate piece of evidence that your autograph is real, by tracing the history of the COA or LOA rather than just accepting it to be fact.
