When it comes to collecting antiques that tell a story, textiles and linens are an excellent avenue to pursue, especially when it comes to embroidery. Embroidery is a needlecraft similar to hand sewing that involves using colored threads to design an image on linens and other textiles. Embroidery has been used for ages as a means of customizing linens, and it was not unheard of to hand embroider a name or initials on a handkerchief, or to customize a baby blanket with the boy or girls' name and date or birth. Embroidery is still an extremely popular means of customization in modern times, especially now that embroidery can be completed by machines.

There are numerous different styles and forms of embroidery, some of which involve creating simple outlines or simple single lines, and other which involve creating intricate and unique full color images. Because embroidery laden textiles and linens tell stories about the people that once owned them, they make truly excellent antiques to collect.
