- Why does my 10-ounce silver bar weigh more than 10 ounces? As I was surfing around some other money blogs I ran across an investor who just bought some silver. He weighed a 10-ounce silver bar and found that "strangely" it weighed 10.9 ounces. His scale is fairly accurate -- probably better than a tenth ounce. What he actually measured was...

How much does cable TV really cost? I have often recommended that people give up their cable TV in an effort to decrease their monthly expenses and help pay down their debt. The usual response is "No way!". I can completely understand why they feel this way. Watching television has almost replaced baseball and the national pastime....- Chiang Mai Revisited It's been quite a while since I last visited Chiang Mai. There was a time when I was visiting the "Rose of the North" more or less monthly to work on some projects, so after they ended I felt I'd had a bit too much of the place and haven't...
- Bali from a Different Point of View I visit Bali frequently on business, so I've been on most of the standard tours – been there, done that. So, I thought I would try something different: A bicycle tour. We set off in a van in the morning for a drive of little more than an hour up-hill...
- On This Date in Baseball History-July 4  On July 4, 1985, the New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves, 16-13, in a wild 19-inning affair at Fulton County Stadium. Light-hitting pitcher Rick Camp hits a game-tying home run in the 18th, only to see his team lose. New York’s Keith Hernandez hits for the cycle. On...

And it's only June. Good thing I didn't wait until July for this trip, or, heaven forbid, August. Fortunately, I've got this little slice of...

Anti-Bittorrent I have did some research and found this by accident... - Inflation and rising prices aren't the same thing This might have been one of my easily confused money terms, but I didn't think of it back then. - Staying on Track When You Work at Home It has now been a month and a half since I resigned from my job. Last Friday, I stopped to think, what I have accomplished with all this time? I can sum it up in just a two words: "not much." This may surprise some of my regular readers who...
- How We Celebrate Christmas Eve For some reason, Christmas Eve has always meant more to me than Christmas. Perhaps that's because it's when my immediate family always held our Christmas celebration. I realized this year how much the tradition meant to me, when I had to figure out whether I wanted to a) work on Christmas Eve or b) take it off without pay and not get paid for Christmas Day and the day after. Apparently if you take unpaid leave the day before a vacation, that's how it works in our system (and being a new employee, I have no annual leave). It wasn't even something I hesitated over. Between my blog and consulting and Micah's income, we'll be fine for the three days anyway...but even if it was a stretch I doubt I'd hesitate.
