Patterns Sewing Antiques

Before sewing machines, sewing was done by hand. Having a pattern made the process easier, because a lot more time and effort went into the creation of each garment. Looking back at sewing antiques now, some of the most interesting things you will find are extremely old sewing patterns, which are an excellent testament to how sewing has changed throughout the years. Take a look at some of today's full color sewing patterns in comparison to the antiques that are still in relatively good condition, and you will see that a lot has changed in the world of sewing patterns in the last hundred years or so.

 

Before the well known McCall brand of sewing patterns became popular in the early 1900s, one of the most prolific sewing patterns designer was a company called Echo, which was creating sewing patterns in the late 1800s, allowing housewives and manufacturers to put together hand sewn clothing until the point where sewing machines took over. Sewing patterns are still extremely popular today, but relied upon much less with sewing machines making quick work of garment construction.
