Wines tasting is something that can essentially be divided into two different categories, people that do it to be professional and people that do it for the purpose of leisure. When it comes to professional tasting, the taster has to be able to evaluate the wine thoroughly, addressing a wide variety of different things including the origin of the wine and whether or not the wine is going to be able to increase in its value if it is cellared or sold, or whether it should simply be drunk right off the shelf.
On the other hand, leisurely wines tasting is about tasting purely for the purpose of pleasure. The wine should be chilled as a white wine or otherwise in its optimum state of condition. Tasting for pleasure is about educational experiences above all else.
Top Conditions - You are going to want to make sure that the wine is consumed in the best conditions because wine tastes the greatest when served in the right condition. The condition should include the right temperature, the right state of your palate and even the right time of day. The best temperature for wine serving is generally 20 degrees Celsius.
Good Health - If you are sick, then you are not going to get the full enjoyment out of the wine. If any of your senses are being impeded then you are not going to taste the wine properly, which is just a waste of a good bottle of wine. Make sure that you are healthy before tasting wine.
Senses Working Together - To have the best possible tasting experience for wines, you are going to want to make sure that your smell, your sight and your taste are all in the best most optimum condition and that they are all tuned into focusing on how the wine is impacting them during the wines tasting. The eyes should play a role in the wine tasting just as much as the mouth, because looking at the wine’s color and texture is just as important as smelling it and tasting it, especially in understanding the subtle differences from bottle to bottle.
What should I be looking for?
When it comes to wines tasting, you should know that a good wine is either going to have an acidic or a sour taste to it. Often times this is well balanced with an amount of sweetness. If you want to make sure that a wine is not off, you should be looking for a smell or a taste of vinegar. If the wine has a smell that reminds you of vinegar, or if you taste it and it has this kind of flavor to it, then it likely is no longer good. Proper wine storage can prevent this from happening, but sometimes wine simply does not last as it was meant to.
