Collectibles -> Transportation -> Automobilia
For car lovers, one of the best collectibles you can find are antique car parts. These unique items come in nearly every shape and size, and the ones that are particularly valuable are the ones from car makers that are no longer in business. There are many places to find antique car parts, but here are some of the best.
The first place to look are auto body shops. In fact, in many cases, these shops will be happy to have you take the antique car parts off their hands. Look for older Mom and Pop type shops since they will most likely have the biggest variety of parts. While it is possible to find some of the old parts at newer stores it is best to look for the older stores that may be in a different part of town.
Next, you’ll want to look at second hand stores. Typically, there will be at least one section dedicated to odds and ends and this is a great place to look for antique car parts. Take your time to go through everything, you never know what you may come across. Second hand stores in older parts of town are typically gold mines of great items that may actually be quite valuable.
Salvage yards are one of the best places to look for antique car parts. In fact, you may even find them attached to the old cars they originally came with. If you’ve got a restored vehicle that needs antique car parts, this is a great way to find the right parts and still save money. Typically, you’ll need to pay a fee to get into the yard, and then they may also have a fee for any part you take. That will vary by salvage yard however, and it’s easy enough to find one that just wants the stuff hauled away.
Online auctions are emerging as a great place to find antique car parts. Buyers now have access to sellers across the world and the car part business is booming. One of the best things about online auctions is that it is incredibly easy to get parts from Europe, or even Russia, all from your own home. This is a great way to find parts for restored cars, or for those that are just collecting used auto parts.
Last but not least, regular auctions also offer some great options for finding used car parts. Again, you should have a pretty wide variety. Look for auctions that are complete disbursals of farm or ranch equipment. These are by far the best when it comes to getting old parts. In addition to these car parts, you can also find used tractor parts and other implements that will go well with your collection.
If you can’t find the antique car parts you’re looking for, you can always place an ad in a free circular, especially in small towns. That way, sellers can just contact you directly to buy the parts.
