Regardless of whether you are just beginning your wine collection or if you have been collecting and building your wine collection for many years, the goal when it comes to collecting wine is to keep them in perfect drinking condition. The whole idea of keeping these bottles around is so that you can eventually drink them sometime in the future. However, you cannot simply leave your antique bottles of wine lying around for many years and then eventually figure that it is still going to taste good. Improper wine collection storage is going to hurt your collection significantly in the long run, and this is a waste of your investment.
The two most important things that you need to know when it comes to proper wine collection storage is that you need to have the right temperature and the right humidity where you store your wine collection in order for it to benefit the most. Everything really just comes down to temperature and humidity when it comes to your wine collection.
Temperature - Between temperature and humidity, temperature is the more important consideration that you should be making. The ideal temperature for red wines is going to be 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The best temperature for white wines is going to be between 45 degrees and 50 degrees Fahrenheit. If your wine is kept at a temperature that is colder, the aging process will actually be slowed down. This will prevent your wine collection from being able to age correctly. On the other hand, if your wine collection is stored in a warmer temperature, then your wine collection will be caused to age faster, but not actually in a good way.
Humidity – The other factor that you really need to be careful about when it comes to your wine collection is the humidity of the place where you are storing the bottles. The humidity in the areas of wine storage should be approximately 80 percent for the best results. If the humidity is too dry, then the cork will dry out. This could let oxygen into your wine, or it could put cork in your wine, and neither of these things are going to be pleasant in any way.
There is no reason why storing your wine collection cannot be easy. There are a wide variety of different wine collection refrigerators that you can use to take the headache out of keeping your wine collection properly stored. All you have to do is buy the refrigerator, buy the wine, and properly store the wine in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Although there are other ways to store your wine as well, this is certainly a no nonsense way to handle the storage of your wine collection to make sure that your wine is ready for you when you’re prepared to drink it.
