September 10th, 2009 — Agriculture Collectibles, Collectible Pocket Knives, Collectibles
Out of all of the advertising related collectibles on the market at the current time, some of the most popular are agriculture related collectible pocket knives. These collectibles hearken back to a simpler time and collectors snap them up in droves. Many of these collectible pocket knives are in high demand, and the overall values for them are surprising. If you are a fan of agricultural collectibles, you may want to consider find a few of these to add to your collection.
When you’re shopping for collectible pocket knives, there are a few things to remember before you make your purchase. While many look at these as an emotional item, and one that doesn’t have a big dollar value, it is possible to find collectible pocket knives that are worth a small fortune. By knowing what to look for, you may just be able to stumble across the perfect collector item.
First, the collectible pocket knives that are the most valuable are the ones that are related to either John Deere or International brands. These are highly collectible and many people like to purchase these items to complete their existing agriculture collection. If you happened to have one of these as a kid, or you are just interested in finding a really great item to display in your own personal collection, try to keep an eye open for knives from these brands.
There are also a few others that are in high demand, but by and large, these two are the most popular. When you find collectible pocket knives, it’s a good idea to see what kind of condition they are in. A rusty knife will not be worth as much as one that has been maintained and is still in excellent condition. Restoration is tough but not impossible for these items, but it is still a good idea to try to get one that is as close to mint condition as possible. You should be able to open up the pocket knife fairly easy, and there should not be any rust on the blade or the handle.
If you’re interested in tracking down collectible pocket knives, there are a few great places to start your search. If you live in an area where agriculture is popular, you should be able to find some incredible deals at local auctions, especially if it is for an old ranch dispersal. Keep an eye out for local auctions and attend whenever you can. You may also be able to find collectible pocket knives at second hand stores in these areas. Flea markets are another great place to try, and you may also be able to find these items at local garage sales.
For those living in a more metropolitan area, finding collectible pocket knives that are related to agriculture is a bit harder. However, thanks to online auction sites, you should be able to find just what you’re looking for. Thanks to the popularity of these items, you should have a wide selection from which to choose.

September 7th, 2009 — Barbie Dream House, Collectibles, Dolls

The first Barbie Dream House was introduced in 1960, and could fold up into a small box that was easily carried around by a little girl. Ponytail Barbie, the Barbie whose hair was pulled back into a ponytail with short bangs in front, wanted nothing more than to live in her dream house and hang out with her friends. These Dream Houses have been a popular Barbie item since their introduction, and are still being created today in various forms.
A vintage Barbie Dream House, though, is something many collectors clamor for. Whether it’s that original house with a plaid couch and a television console that was just as long as the couch, or a more modern 80s dream house, collectors love to purchase these items. For many, it takes them back to their childhood spent playing with Barbies and the Dream House they had (or wanted but never got) as a child. For others, it’s part of the lure of collecting dolls and their accessories.
An online auction site like eBay is a wonderful place to look for the Barbie Dream House you want. Because they’re not small items, you might decide you just want one. Maybe you want one that would have been the one you had as a child. Or maybe you want one from your favorite era of toys and Barbie dolls. Some collect all they can afford.
If you plan on collecting more than one Barbie Dream House, then you should decide what criteria you’ll go by when purchasing them. You might decide that you’ll set a price limit—you won’t purchase a Dream House that costs more than your limit. Some mint condition Barbie Dream Houses cost $1000 or more. It might not be that important for you to have a mint condition toy.
If you want a Barbie Dream House that’s still in decent shape, you should be able to find one for less. It won’t be mint condition, but good condition. Often these will have some wear. Considering the earliest Dream Houses were often made of cardboard, in and out, that they’re in good condition at all is amazing, especially given how played with some of these toys were. Few little girls got a Barbie Dream House for Christmas and then set it on a shelf. Barbie lived there, and invited all her friends over regularly! So while a cardboard house will show some wear, particularly on the outside and the corners, you might find that an acceptable compromise and just consider your collectible Dream House a well-loved toy, instead of one that’s mint.
Later versions contained plastic and vinyl, and eventually they became all plastic and grew to 2 stories and then 3, with things like an elevator that moved up and down and other moving parts. The décor changed to match the times, ensuring that each generation could purchase a modern home. The Barbie Dream House is one of the best loved toys every created, and that should make any toy collector want at least a few.

Rare collectibles are items that are perceived to be hard to find by a collectible, and they may also be antique in nature seeing as many antique collectibles are also rare collectibles. Any item that has a high quality craftsmanship, that is relatively old in nature and that reflects the past well can be considered to be a rare collectible. The concept of rare collectibles is partially objective and partially subjective based on how you look at it. For example, rare collectibles can be perceived to be any collectible that is rare, such as a mint condition baseball trading card with an autograph, of which there are only three in the world. Rare collectibles may also be obscure items that only appeal to certain people, like ancient coins found in Mayan temples.
The common denominator in all rare collectibles is that they are considered to be rare no matter what they are or how old they are. Some rare collectibles are relatively modern, such as autographs from a recently deceased sports star or movie star, while other rare collectibles are virtually ancient in nature and therefore cannot be reproduced or found in good condition. Rare collectibles can be from any time period and can fall into any category of items, the only requirement is that they are rare to come by and considered to be collectible by someone.
There are a wide variety of different items that can be perceived as rare collectibles including:
- Rare antique coins,
- Rare limited edition stamps,
- Rare pottery items from civilizations long extinct,
- Rare antique furniture that managed to maintain a solid condition,
- Rare paper documents that are still legible,
- Rare weapons from wars and old civilizations and cultures,
- Rare cultural items that cannot be reproduced,
- Collectibles autographed by deceased individuals,
- Travel souvenirs that are difficult to come by,
- The list goes on and on.
There is not one single place where rare collectibles come from, nor a single time period, category of item, or any other detail. Rare collectibles is actually a very broad category of collectibles, and collectors typically fine tune their collection interest by finding a specific type of rare collectible that they would like to collect for themselves. For example, some people collect cultural jewelry that is rare, while other people focus on a certain civilization’s coins. Some people collect rare sports memorabilia while other people prefer rare autographed pieces of memorabilia like concert tickets, theater playbills and movie posters. It does not matter what you decide to collect, as long as you perceive the collection to be valuable and meaningful to you. Just keep in mind that rare collectibles are typically more costly collectibles. This means you may have trouble coming by some of the collectibles that you are interested in, if you are unable to budget for them.
