Tags were very popular to collect in the past, and in many ways still are to this day even though they are not made nearly as often. These used commonly to come with most cigarette packs and you could tear off and collect the tags that you used to open the pack. These first started out as a sales gimmick to try to make people want to buy cigarettes but ended up spreading largely into these small tokens being collectors’ items. In turn, even people who did not smoke or did not like smoking started collecting these small mementos as memory keepers or purely out of interest.
