Militaria, to the collector, is a chance to own a slice of history… And history is happening right now. From 9-11 to the blunders of the Bush administration in its preemptive invasion of Iraq, this period will be looked back on an epic, if not enlightened, period. Thus it is a good time to collect contemporary militaria while it is still very affordable. The term militaria refers to any of the many types of military collectible, such as medals, fatigues, guns, or basically anything that would be used by, or given to, someone in the military. Militaria are divided into two types, authentic original period pieces and reproductions. Why collect reproductions, you may wonder? Typically, reenactment hobbyists—people who recreate famous battles, dressed in full period military costume—use them.
