1976-89 Militaria Collectibles
The post-Vietnam started as a dark time in the US. The aftermath of the Vietnam War saw the military, and American power, fall into disrepute. BY the end of this period, however, the cold war ended in victory, and the Berlin Wall fell. Militaria from this period can thus be particularly interesting, yet being recent, quite affordable as well. The term militaria refers to any of the many types of military collectible, such as medals, fatigues, guns, or basically anything that would be used by, or given to, someone in the military. Militaria are divided into two types, authentic original period pieces and reproductions. Why collect reproductions, you may wonder? Typically, reenactment hobbyists—people who recreate famous battles, dressed in full period military costume—use them.

From the disgrace of the unjust war in Vietnam, the US military eventually regained its honor during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Reagan increased military spending, forcing the Soviet Union to follow suit, and eventually won the Cold War—without ever firing a shot. Militaria from the period of 1976-89 is thus of keen interest to collectors, and many of the last vestiges of Soviet power are available at very affordable prices.
Collecting militaria is a fascinating hobby, especially for the history buff. In the case of militaria, it really is possible to stumble across something that will one day end up in a museum like the Smithsonian. Militaria tend to appreciate in value, and be appreciated for its historical value.
