Anyone who is into collecting coins is always on the lookout for a great deal on the coins that they collect. There are a lot of great deals out there, but one of the best places you will be able to find great coins is at the coin auctions. This is because the coin auctions are populated by all the people which are into collecting and selling coins on a pretty serious level. You are likely to find some really great bargains on some really great coins when you go to these auctions.
Even better is when you go to an American Numismatic Association (ANA) auction. This is because you will find that the dealers which are in attendance are forced to adhere to the ethics policies which are put in place by the ANA. Even if you do not go to one of these auctions, you are likely to find mostly coins which are graded and certified. You will also find lots which will allow you to buy a bulk of raw coins. The deals will vary from out of this world to good to bad depending on who else is at the auction and the bidding wars that people engage in.
Strict Policies for Selling Coins
One of the biggest problems that coin collectors run into is sellers offering coins which are graded incorrectly. This means you will think that you are getting a MS 65 piece for a steal when you are actually getting an AU 55 and you are getting ripped off. When you buy from coin auctions they will have experts on hand who will check out all of the coins as they go to sale. They will verify whether they feel the coin is properly graded or not. Only those graded below the actual grade will be allowed to go to auction.
Buying Coins Which Are Graded and Certified
One of the great things about buying from coin auctions is the ability to get coins which have already been graded and certified for you. This means that if you are able to get a good deal on the coins you buy you can turn right around and sell them for a profit. Most people will sit on the coins that they buy at auction for a little while. This is unless they get the feeling that the price of the coin will soon drop in price.
The Thrill and Hazard of Raw Coins
One thing which can be fun about coin auctions is when they have lots which include bags of raw coins. The great thing about these bags is you never know what you are going to get. You could spend a few bucks and get nothing but some old dirty coins. You may also come across a hidden treasure which will only be able to be in the EF category but will still turn a pretty good profit once you get it graded and ready for sell.
