Tips for Online Shopping and Rare Coins

Anyone living in an area with few coin shops understands how difficult it can be to find the different coins that they are interested in. These different coin shops simply do not have the rare coins that serious coin collectors are looking for, making it difficult for them to continue their coin collections. If you are serious about coin collecting but cannot further your collection through your local stores, you will want to consider online shopping.

Online shopping is a great tool for those who are looking to add some rare coins to their collection. With that being said, online shopping can be slightly dangerous for those who have never done it before. You need to work to understand what to look for to avoid getting ripped off or taken advantage of.

Check Credentials

The first thing that you should do when looking at an online store is to check credentials. If it is an online auction site, you will want to check their auction credentials. Others than that, look for any associations that the website may be attached to and research those associations. There will be online stores who do not have these connections that are still reliable – these connections will simply help you to better understand the safety of using a site.

Check Online Reviews

Online reviews will often be your window into the companies and websites you are looking into. Websites that are scamming their customers are going to be called out for it online. If you search online and notice that a website has a growing number of complaints, stay away from that company and website and find a different website.

Check Payment Options

If you are going to purchase coins online you are going to want to find a website with reliable methods of purchase. PayPal is going to be the type of payment that you will want to see, follow by credit card payments. You should never give banking number information to a website during a purchase.

Check Refund Policy

One of the ways for you to find a reliable online store is to check the refund policy and search online reviews to make sure that refund policy is upheld. You should be able to send a coin back if it is not what you thought you were getting or is not what the description led you to believe you would be getting. If you find a website that states that all sales are final, you may want to move on to another website.

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible for you to find the rare coins that you are looking for online. For everyone one bad online dealer there is a wealth of reputable dealers who are looking to connect you with the coins that you want. Take the time to look for these stores and practice these tips as you shop in these online stores. You will be able to find a reputable dealer and will be able to find exactly what you are looking for.

3 Great Places to Find Rare Coins

Coin collecting is something which has been practiced in America for over 200 years now. It is something which has been enjoyed by people of every age and for many different reasons. When creating or expending a collection, it is normal to seek out the best rare coins you can find. These coins will allow you to have a great collection which will include coins of all different kinds of values. It is important to remember that there are many different places you can find collections at. If you search around, you will be able to find the best coins at the best prices.

Often you will have to sacrifice price a little bit to get the rare coins you really want for your collection. This is the case when you go to a coin shop to get what you want. You can also find many great coins at the coin auctions. One of the favorite places to acquire coins from are the other people out there with their own collections. No matter where you get your coins from, make sure that you are getting the coins that you want at the price you can afford.

Coin Shops

Coin shops are perhaps the most expensive option which is available for buying rare coins. The biggest advantage you get when you buy from a coin shop is that there are constantly coins being bought and sold by the shop. If you get in good with the shop owner, you will be able to get notification when a coin you are looking for makes its way into the shop. This way you will be able to pick up the coins that you want without having to search all over town to find them. Instead, they will find you.

Coin Auctions

Another great place where you can find great rare coins is at the auction. These have literally hundreds of different coins which you can purchase. Best of all, you will be able to see the coins first hand and you will get to examine them before you make a bid to purchase them. With any luck, you will be able to get the exact coins you are looking for at a fraction of the price that you would normally be able to buy it for. At the very least you will be able to cap your bid at the market price.

Private Dealers

The most common way for people to purchase the rare coins that they want to purchase is through private collections. These are people just like you. Even if they have collections which are much more expensive than yours, they still purchase each coin as an individual and stock their collection based on what they feel that they need. You have a pretty good chance of getting the coins that you want at a price which is fair. The only thing to watch out for are people trying to make a huge profit where it is unwarranted.

When Foreign Currency is Best

There are some people who try to stick with the currency of their home country when coin collecting. They want the coins that they are looking for to be somewhat easy to find, and are proud of their country and cultural heritage. While this is commendable and can provide a strong collection, it is not the only type of currency you should look into. Foreign currency is an incredible type of currency to collect.

Foreign currency provides a wide variety of options and opportunities, giving you the range that you need to have a professional and interesting collection. Think about foreign currency and when it may be best for you to incorporate this type of money into your collection.

When You’re Bored

One of the best times to start collecting foreign currency while coin collecting is when you are bored with your collection. This is going to open up a completely new genre of collecting for you, helping to breathe life back into your collection. You will start to enjoy collecting again because you have fresh challenges and new and interesting coins to add to your collection. You may even start to add paper currency to your collections, giving you more depth that you collection has had before.

When You Have More Money

Most people will find that foreign currency collecting is more expensive than collecting currency from their home country. It can he harder to people to find coins from another country because the supply is overseas or held in a different country. The prices are simply raised because of shipping and rarity. If you have more money, you may want to consider adding this to your collection. You will have more funds, making it easier for you to add foreign currency to a collection without breaking the bank.

When You’re Traveling

The single greatest time to start collecting foreign currency is when you travel to a different country. You will be able to fill your collection with the current currency of the country, and will be able to find older foreign pieces easily. You will also have an incredible emotional connection to this part of your collection, because it will remind you of your vacation or trip. This is something that you will have to plan in advance for, however, as you will want to spend a decent amount of money at once. You will find rare foreign coins that you simply will not find in your home country when you travel.

For some people, a few pieces of foreign currency are all that is needed to rod out a collection. For others, a full section devoted to currencies from other countries is the perfect addition. Take a look at your collection and think about your coin collecting as a whole. Could it benefit from coins from other countries? Could paper money from other countries add detail to a one dimensional collection? The more thought that you put in, the better that your collection will turn out.

How to Sell Coin Collections for Maximum Profit

Anytime you are thinking about selling a coin, you want to get the most possible for the sale. This is why when you are thinking about how to sell coin collections you need to have the best advice possible. The right methods will mean the difference between getting a good price on the coins that you have and getting ripped off. You do not have to be an expert in order to get a good deal on the coins you are selling. You just need to know some of the basics of selling coins.

It is important that you know the tricks some people will try to use when buying coins. These tricks might work on a lot of different sellers, but they do not work on those who are hip to the game. When you go to sell coin collections, you will understand the tricks which people are using and you will be able to get a better deal. Getting to know the current values of your coins will also allow you to get a better deal on the coins you are looking to sell. Most importantly, you need to be able to say no to an offer if it does not sound right to you.

Know the Tricks

When you go to sell coin collections, you will be approached by people who are trying to take advantage of your ignorance. This is something you can combat simply by doing your homework. One thing they will try to do is to tell you that you have a fake coin. This is done with sincerity since they want you to believe they are doing you a favor. They will then offer to buy your coin at a ridiculously low price. Keep in mind, no ethical buyer will want to buy a fake.

Know the Value of Your Collection

The best way to get the most money when you sell coin collections is to know what they are worth. This way you will be able to ask for the right amount. You can have the coins graded if they have not already been graded. Two of the major Third Party Graders, PCGS and NGC, also offer updated coin prices on their websites. This will allow you to always keep up with how much your coins are worth. You can also use coin collecting software to keep up with these values.

Say NO!

The most important thing you can do when looking to get the most money when you sell coin collections is to not be afraid to tell people no. You will get offers which will be completely off base. It is okay to haggle price, but if the buyer cannot come near what you have determined is your lowest price, you will have to say no. Even if it means you lose the sale this round, there will be more people who are ready to buy what you have to sell and they will make an offer in the range you are looking for.

3 Ways in Which Coin Collector Software Has Change the Industry

There have been many changes in the world of coin collecting over the years. These changes have mostly been in regards to which coins are prized above others. Every once in a while a toll will come along which will help those in the industry to enjoy collecting more or to get more out of their collections. Coin collector software is one of the most recent developments in the world of numismatics. For those thinking about whether to buy the software or not, it is a good idea to look at the ways in which the software has changed the way many collectors operate.

For starters the coin collector software has opened up coin collecting to a lot more people. It has also streamlined the buying and selling of coins so that you can get more coins in your collection and get more out of the ones you already have. Another way that it has changed the market is it has caused many of the old numismatic books to become obsolete. While many are resolute in not making a switch to the new software, there are more people excited about the changes the software brings with it.

More Amateur Collecting

One of the things which has held many amateurs back form more serious collecting is the fact that it is intimidating to purchase coins when you do not know much about them. Thanks to the coin collector software even an amateur collector has the ability to know what coins they are buying and what to look for in terms of grading and more. They are also able to distinguish one coin from another thanks to the recognition capabilities of the software.

Streamlined Collecting

Maintaining a collection has always taken a lot of time and effort. With the new coin collector software, it is possible to keep track of everything that you have along with the values of all of your different coins. This allows people to instantly see everything that they have and allow others to see it as well. This leads to more people buying and selling coins from people they would not have normally met in real life. This is a perfect opportunity to be able to fill in the gaps in your collection or to get rid of coins that you no longer need in your collection.

Making Some Books Obsolete

Up until recently, books have been the ultimate in discovering what the value of your collection is and what kinds of coins you have on hand. While there is still a lot of information which can be gleaned from the books, there are a few which have been made obsolete by the coin collector software. What many numismatists have taken to doing is to hold onto the books for references and to bring along with them when they to go shows or auctions so that they can get the information that they need on the go.

There are a wide variety of benefits to be had by those who get their kids into coin collecting. Whether it be old money or new money, kids will be able to jump into a world that will make them more interested in topics they may glaze over in the classroom. While there are plenty of different benefits to this hobby, these are the few that stand out among the rest.

Value

The first benefit of getting kids into coin collecting comes in the form of value education. Your child will be able to learn about values and will be able to learn that some things are more valuable than others. They will also learn the value in saving up for something that they really want to have. Help them to find old money that they are interested in that has a reasonable price. Instead of buying the coin for them, tell them to save a small part of their allowance each week for it. They will immediately become more attached to their collection and will understand the rewards of saving money.

History

Coin collecting can turn into one gigantic history lesson. If your child collects US currency they will learn about American history through the research they do on the different coins that are available. If your child is collecting foreign currency, they will learn about all of the different countries and may also learn about the history of those various countries. Money collecting harkens back to the history of the world. You can see the history on the coins and the paper money and will learn about historical events through the significance of money created during that time.

Dedication

It is important to teach your kids about passion and dedication – they need to find things they are passionate about and stay dedicated to their projects and passions. A coin collection is something that must be cared for over time, a process that must be thought about over a long time period. Your child will easily learn dedication from sticking with a specific form of collection for a longer period of time.

While it can be somewhat expensive, coin collecting for kids is one of the greatest collections you can move your children toward. They will be able to learn about different countries and their cultures through collecting foreign currency, and will be able to learn US history through our own currency history. Kids will be interested in money and will learn the importance of values and cost as they work to make their collection grow. Simply put, the benefits of getting a child into coin collecting are expansive, and well wroth the money and effort.

What Your Coin Collection Values Really Mean?

If you are like most people with a coin collection, you got started because you wanted to have something fun to do. As you got more into the collecting aspect of the hobby, you soon discovered that there were so many super expensive pieces out there that you started seeing what you could do to get your hands on a few of them. While some will increase your coin collection values, others will do nothing but hold their value. Of course, most people are looking to have a big number when looking at coin collection values, but what does this number even really mean?

This is a good question for those just getting started out. You wonder if the huge values mean that you actually have a ton of money sitting in your collection. You also wonder if you were to sell off your collection if you would be able to get the full price of your coin collection values or not. Most importantly, if having a big value is a good thing, you wonder what you have to do to make it grow. Wondering about these things will help you not only to have a better collection. It will also help you to be a better collector.

Does the Value Indicate Actual Price?

Coin collection values do not represent the actual price of your collection. This is because the price that you can sell a piece at will always be different from what it is valued at in the market. You may be able to get more, you may wind up with less. This will depend on the market and how the specific coin is performing in relation to the rest of the market. An upward trend means the coin is more valuable when selling. A downward trend means you should hold off on selling until the market is back on the rise.

Can I Sell My Collection at Market Value?

If you are looking to sell an entire set, it is good to keep in mind that most collectors do not buy a whole set. The only way that they will buy the whole set is if the price of the collection is right. This will not bode well for you as they are looking for coin collection values to plummet because you are selling the whole thing at once. You are better off selling each piece individually.

How Can I Make My Collection Value Grow?

Other than the obvious statement of adding better coins, there are a lot of people who really want to know ways they can improve their coin collection value. You should make sure that all of your coins have been graded and put into a slab. This will reduce the cost on the buyer’s part. It will also increase the value of the collection because all of the guesswork has been taken out of it. They will know what to pay and you will know what to charge.

How to Get Started With an American Coin Collection

There are many different kinds of coins you can collect out there. Among the most popular to collect is the American coin. This is because to date the American coin collector is one of the preeminent collectors in the industry. Other countries like Australia and Canada are starting to grow in the amount of collectors, but they still do not compare to the amount of collectors which have established themselves in the United States. This presents an opportunity and a challenge for all people looking to get started collecting these types of coins.

If you are looking to get started with your own American coin collection, there are a few things you should keep in mind. The first thing that you will have to decide is how much you are willing to spend on your collection. Once you have this figured out, you may want to decide how you would like to display your collection. You should always make sure that the coins you purchase have been graded and certified so that you will know that you have a collection which is genuine and also you will know how much your collection is worth.

How Much You Will Pay

Coin collecting is a hobby which everyone can get involved in. If you do not have a lot of money, you can start by collecting some of the commemorative coins which are put out by the U.S. Mint. These include the state quarters and the recent President dollars. Those looking to spend more money can chase the Morgan silver dollar or even seek out the gold 1933 Eagle coin. Spending a lot of money only means that your collection will be worth a lot now. It is possible to spend a little and end up with treasures which will be worth a fortune later as long as you take good care of them.

Different Ways to Display Your Coin Collection

Collections can be displayed in a number of different ways. The most common way to display a collection is laid out on a luminescent surface. This is because you will likely have the coins in the slab that they were put into when they were certified. Others will decide to instead display their coins in a matted frame. These do not have to be reserved for just commemorative coins. You can use the mat for just about any kind of coin as long as you do not mind that it is out of reach.

Grading and Certification

Having your coins graded by a third party is a great way to make sure that your American coin collection is certified as the quality that it is. This is a great way to know what it is that you have in your collection. It is also a great way to make sure that you will be able to protect your coins for future generations to enjoy. The sooner you get it graded and certified, the sooner you will stop any aging problems the coin might encounter.

How to Get Insurance Based on Rare Coin Values

You do everything you can to get a good coin collection. You go to all the right places to get the best prices on the coins that you purchase. You keep everything you have in the best possible condition using flips, bags and slabs. You even keep your collection in a safe which is cemented into the wall. The only thing you need in order to protect your collection is to have the right insurance. There are a few different ways in which you can get the insurance that you are looking for to protect your collection.

Among the best ways to get insurance for your coin collection is to go through the major brands of insurance. They will have the policies that you are looking for as long as you make sure to ask for exactly what you are looking for. The way that many people have been finding the insurance policies that they want for their coin collections is through organizations like the ANA. Outside of the professional organizations you will need to find organizations which specialize in insuring things of greater value than the normal household.

Regular Policies

Most homes have an insurance policy which will cover the things which are in the home up to a certain dollar amount. These policies can include everything from your television to your coin collection. These policies are only good for coin collections which are small to medium sized. Collections with rare coin values any higher will have to go to a different kind of insurance holder. You will need to find an insurance policy which specializes in these kinds of rare coins so that you will be able to get the benefits that you need to cover your property.

Professional Policies

The next level up to cover more expensive rare coin values are the policies which are offered from such professional groups at the ANA. These policies work well for those with decent sized collections. You will be able to get protection for many of the different coins that you can purchase which will go from the tens of thousands to the hundreds of thousands. If you have a collection which goes into the millions you might be able to find a policy which will suit your need but it will be highly expensive. You are better off getting a policy from a different provider.

Large Policies

The best policies for those who have a collection which is valued in the millions is to get insurance through one of the major brokerage houses. This includes Sotheby’s and more. You can get the policies based on individual rare coin values or you can get the entire collection covered by your policy. This will depend on you and how much money you are willing to spend on the policy that you are trying to get to cover your collection. Choose wisely as you do not want to lose your investment in your collection.
