Coins and Paper Money -> Bullion -> Gold-> Nugget
When it comes to finding a money collectible that immediately has a sense of value, it’s hard to come close to a gold nugget. For centuries, gold fever has been inspired by the talk of immense gold nuggets and to this day you can actually still find them in mines, streams and even buried in the ground. If you prefer to forego all the work that goes into finding gold nuggets, the good news is that you can simply buy them. But before you hand over your hard earned money, there are a few things that you should know.
First, if you come across a gold nugget that is truly immense, but the price seems to be too low, the deal is most likely too good to be true. The price of gold is well over $800 an ounce as of this writing, and most nuggets will weigh a good deal more than that. Always be wary of a seller that is offering a great deal on a gold nugget, since it may not be authentic.
Next, it’s important to determine whether or not the gold nugget is actually iron pyrite, or fool’s gold. This material looks very similar to gold and has been fooling people for many years. If you can’t see the gold nugget in person, demand a certificate of appraisal from the seller, or a gemology report on it. Most reputable sellers will not mind supplying you with this information and in fact, when you are dealing with someone that you can trust, more often that not they will supply this information without being asked.
If you do see a big chunk of rock on an auction site, where the seller is promising that contains real gold, it is best to forego purchasing that item. It is all too easy to claim a piece of rock has gold in it and there is no real way for the average collector to verify this sort of object. It is best to simply walk away rather than buy something that may actually just be a simple rock.
Online auction sites have made it easy for anyone to get their very own gold nugget, but they have also made it incredibly easy to be defrauded. Always take the time to authenticate a seller, and their claims, before you buy your own nugget. It does take more time, and there may be a lot of hassle involved. However, when you consider what a gold nugget may be worth, this is definitely time and money well spent. An appraisal that costs less than $50 on a gold nugget that could be worth may times that is just a smart decision.
Always listen to your gut instincts when shopping for a gold nugget online. Take the time to do your homework and request additional verification from the seller about the authenticity of the gold nugget before you actually do buy it. This can save you quite a lot of heartache, not to mention money.
