There are many different coins which are available for you to purchase so that you can add them to your collection. These coins can be found in a variety of different places. Many times it just takes some ingenuity to find the coins that you want to buy. One of the greatest locations you will be able to find the coins you want to purchase is at estate sales. These are the sales of homes and grand estates of the rich and famous. This is the kind of sale which made it possible for the 1933 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle to re-emerge.
The first thing you need to when finding antique coins at estate is being able to find the estate sales in the first place. Once you find the sales you will need to make sure that you will be able to get involved in the estate sale. At last once you are at the sale, you will have to endure the auction which will make it possible to purchase the coins that you want. The good news is because you are not buying from a person, there is no way that they will drive the price up.
Finding the Estate Sales
The best way to find out about estate sales is to pay attention to the death announcements for those who are known to have large coin collections. You are sure to find antique coins at these sales because the coin collections are rarely if ever passed along to heirs. This will allow you to be able to get the coins that you want as long as you are able to get your foot in the door. Wouldn’t you know it that is the next part of the plan.
Getting into the Sale
The difficult about buying antique coins at an estate sale is getting involved in the sale in the first place. This is normally possible if you are able to show that you are an avid coin collector and that you have sold the deceased pieces in the past. You can also find out other relations which you can manipulate to get your way through the door to the sale. Just do not try to crash the gate. If you are lucky you will find that the sale is open to the public or at least to numismatics. This way you will be able to get in.
Going Through the Auction
For many, the hardest thing you can do at an estate sale is to go through the bidding process at the auction. This is because when you see some the antique coins you are likely to lose your head. The best solution is to scope out the coins you want before the auction starts. Give yourself limits to how much you are allowed to spend so that you will be able to stop yourself if the bidding should get to be too high for your budget.
