			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/coinvalue.jpg" alt="coinvalue" title="coinvalue" width="240" height="180" class="left" />When you are deciding whether or not you would like to add a specific coin to your collection, one of the things that you are going to want to take into account is rare coin values. The rare coin values that you find will ultimately be determined by availability of the coin, demand on the coin, condition of the coin and also the grading for the coin.</p>
<h3>Demand and Availability</h3>
<p>The demand on a specific coin is going to be capable of significantly increasing the rare coin values. A common coin which is prized highly by collectors is going to have a much higher value than common coins that are sought by fewer collectors. Rare coin values often come from the fact that rare coins have much higher levels of demand in comparison to other common coins.</p>
<p>For example, despite their age, some <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-Ancient/Roman-Imperial">older Roman</a> and <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-Ancient/Greek">Greek coins</a> are relatively inexpensive in nature simply because they are so abundant. You should also keep in mind that the current availability of the coin is not indicated by the number of coins that was actually minted, as there are situations where coins are destroyed or become lost, affecting the availability of the coin.</p>
<h3>Condition</h3>
<p>Just a very small difference in a coin&#8217;s condition is capable of making a really large difference in its price. Coins that have been used as currency can become worn naturally, and so uncirculated coins are generally capable of fetching a much higher price in comparison to the coins that have been circulated.</p>
<p>For example, a 1913 Buffalo Nickel that was uncirculated has been known to fetch 10 times more in mint condition than a similar coin that is no longer in mint condition because it was circulated.</p>
<p>There are a number of grading services that evaluate the condition of a coin in order to confirm its authenticity and value. There are four factors that are used to find rare coin values, including:</p>
<p><strong>- Strike &#8211; </strong>Coins that are well struck are coins that have a distinct impression in their metal.</p>
<p><strong>- Visual Appeal &#8211; </strong>Some coins have a luster that is soft and satin while others are more reflective in their surface. Some coins are actually colorful while others are plainer. Make sure that you are aware of what appeals specifically to you before you make a purchase. </p>
<p><strong>- Luster -</strong> Dull coins are not as appealing as bright and dazzling luster. However, coins that have been doctored or cleaned are generally avoided by many serious collectors. If you find a coin that has a bright luster despite having been circulated, it has more than likely been polished. </p>
<p><strong>- Wear -</strong> Deterioration can significantly decrease a coin&#8217;s value, including hairlines and contact marks. Wear is going to first occur on the coin&#8217;s highest points in most cases.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/silvercoins.jpg" alt="" title="silvercoins" width="240" height="160" class="left" />The <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/">value of coins</a> is a major thing which coin collectors look at when they are building a collection. This is because the value of the coin now has a lot to do with the value of the coin in the future. This is because something which is rare now will only stand to become rarer as time goes on. This is why numismatists try to hedge their bets on which <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/">collector coin values</a> will rise in the future and by what rate. This is something which can be distinguished by getting to know the factors which control the values of the coins.</p>
<p>There are many different factors which will cause a coin to increase in value. Among these factors there are three which affect <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/">collector coin values</a> more than anything. As long as you know what these factors are, you will be able to tie in everything else which happens in the economy to understand how much more your coins will increase in value over time. The main factors include rarity, grading and the government. The actions or changes of any of these factors will have a major impact on the value of your coins.</p>
<p><strong>The Rare Factor</strong></p>
<p>One of the most important factors in how valuable a coin will be is how rare a coin is. This trumps all when determining <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money">collector coin values</a> because if there are no other coins like it, the grade of the coin will not matter. There is nothing to compare it to. This is why the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/20-Dollar-Double-Eagle/Saint-Gaudens">1933 Saint-Gaudens coin</a> is one of the most sought after coins. There is only one available which can be legally purchased and its whereabouts are unknown. Interestingly enough, there are ten coins which are in dispute currently. If they are released back to the owner giving her the right to own them, it will destroy the value of the coin.</p>
<p><strong>The Grading Factor</strong></p>
<p>Dr. William Herbert Sheldon created the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#The_Sheldon_rarity_scale">Sheldon Scale</a> for grading coins in 1948. Since then it has become the standard which all coins are graded by. The place a coin falls on the scale will determine its collector coin values. The more perfect the coin is the higher up the scale it is graded and the more money it will fetch. This is why any coin which is considered to be among the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-US/Mint-Sets">Mint State coins</a> is among the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-US/Large-Cents">highest valued coins</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Factoring in the Government</strong></p>
<p>The government from time to time will take actions which will increase the rarity of an item or will introduce new coins which will increase the focus on the original coins. Any of these actions will increase the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Gold/">collector coin values</a>. Of course other changes like decreeing that all <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Gold/20-Dollar-Double-Eagle">1933 Double Eagles</a> are legal to own would have devastating effects on the market. The coin which was once worth $8 million will suddenly plummet in price. The new going rate will be a fraction of that which will crush some collections where the collector paid a premium for the coin.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/statequarters.jpg" alt="statequarters" title="statequarters" width="177" height="240" class="left" />Coin dealers, just like any other type of dealer or business, requires stock that they can sell to the public. Rather than obtaining or acquiring their stock from a factory or manufacturer however, they obtain their coins from the public instead. <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/">Classic types of rare coins</a> have to be acquired from more advanced collectors or from auctions but lesser rare coins can still show up just about anywhere including in your normal pocket change. Below are some coins that are often ignored by your average person despite being capable of bringing in real money, should a hobbyist notice it and offer it for sale to people interested in rare coin collecting.</p>
<p>If it weren&#8217;t for the diligence of some rapid coin collectors interested in rare coin collecting, many of the coins in the following list would go completely unnoticed. These coins are often found by way of careful scrutiny.</p>
<ul>
<li>The 2004 Wisconsin State Quarter, on coins featuring an extra leaf.</li>
</ul>
<p>On some of the Wisconsin quarters minted in 2004, there is an extra leaf either below the corn husk or at the very base of the husk. The value of these coins ranges from $50 to $100 dollars.</p>
<ul>
<li> The 2000-P Sacagawea Dollar from Cheerios</li>
</ul>
<p>These coins were placed randomly in a number of Cheerios cereal boxes after being packed in protective plastic sheets. These coins exhibit more detail than the later production coins. The value of these coins is as yet undetermined.</p>
<ul>
<li> The 5c Doubled Monticello from 1939</li>
</ul>
<p>This is a 1939 Jefferson nickel, and while this coin is relatively easy to find, locating the doubled die reverse is not going to be as easy. The value for these coins is between $30 dollars and $500 dollars depending on the quality of the coin.</p>
<ul>
<li>D/horizontal D 5 cent piece from 1942</li>
</ul>
<p>This Jefferson coin is not the same Wartime silver alloy, but rather it is the previous variety which is a copper and nickel alloy. More than 14 million coins were minted, which was a fairly large mint for the time period. The coins struck from the die with the error are relatively elusive, but still possible to be found. The value for these coins is between $30 dollars and $500 dollars depending on the quality of the coin.</p>
<ul>
<li> The 1955 Double-Die Cent</li>
</ul>
<p>This is perhaps the kind of the doubled dies, as it has spectacular doubling. They were originally discovered in coin rolls. Nearly the entire output from the improperly struck die managed to reach to circulation, so you will really never known when one of these true beauties is going to show up. The value for these coins is between $500 dollars and $1,500 dollars depending on the quality of the coin.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/foreignmoney.jpg" alt="" title="foreignmoney" width="240" height="180" class="left" />Collecting currency is something that people have been enjoying for a long time. It is a way that you will be able to get to know the currency for your own nation as well as the currency for other nations. These different kinds of currency allow you to be able to enjoy the different changes which have gone on throughout history. Among the most elaborate of the currencies is that of the paper currency. If you enjoy collecting this kind of currency, it is a good idea to get to know what <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-and-Paper-Money/Paper-Money-World">affects the paper money price</a>.</p>
<p>To understand everything which goes into paper money price, you will need to understand many of the base concepts of collecting currency. This includes getting to know the grading system itself. You should also get to know what rarity has to do with price. Additionally, you must understand that things can change to elevate or decrease the value of the paper money that you have in your collection. This will allow you to be able to get everything that you need so that you will be able to not only enjoy your collection more. You will also be able to buy and sell with confidence.</p>
<p><strong>What Makes Grading</strong></p>
<p>One of the most important parts of determining <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-and-Paper-Money/Paper-Money-World">paper money price</a> is to determine the grade of the item. The highest quality when it comes to grading paper money is that of the pieces which have never been touched by human hands. These mint pieces are treasured even when they are still fairly new. As money is handled or torn, it degrades in grade. The lower the grade is, the less it will be worth. Bear in mind that even though something has a poor grade it does not mean that it is worthless.</p>
<p><strong>Get to Know Rarity</strong></p>
<p>There are plenty of pieces which fetch a <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-and-Paper-Money/Paper-Money-World">high paper money price</a>. This is due to the fact that they are considered to be highly rare. The rarer the item is, the more that it is worth. It does not matter whether it is terrible condition. These conditions can be created because of changes in government as well as changes in the currency. Whenever you are collecting, it is always fun to look for these because they normally have a great story as well as the fact that they are a challenge to find.</p>
<p><strong>Changes to Value</strong></p>
<p>It is also important to remember that changes happen all the time which affect paper money price. These changes usually involve some kind of a discovery or an event. Among the discoveries can include a highly graded rare item. This will make the lower grade of the same item worth less. Additionally, there are some rare items which will become less rare whenever a cache of the currency is discovered. There can also be changes which will cause something to be rarer based on destruction or things getting lost. Knowing this will help you to get more for your collection.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/romanempireprobus.jpg" alt="" title="romanempireprobus" width="223" height="240" class="left" />There are a lot of people who think that they have a very <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-US/Collections-Lots">valuable collection</a> only to find out that the collection is not worth much at all. This can come to a shock to many people when they end up getting their <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/how-to-find-a-reputable-coin-appraisal/">coin and currency collection graded</a>. The problem people run into over and over is that they have a personal value or a perception of the value which is over-inflated from what the real value is. This does not mean that you cannot still enjoy the collection that you have, it just means that you will know the truth about its value.</p>
<p>If you are thinking about <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/how-to-find-a-reputable-coin-appraisal/">getting your coin and currency collection appraised</a>, you are probably wondering what it is that makes one more valuable than the next. This is a fairly easy thing to answer as there are guidelines which any appraiser will follow when they are looking at a collection. The more you know about the value of money, the easier it will be to preserve and boost the value that your collection has.</p>
<p><strong>The Effect of Human Hands</strong></p>
<p>The oil on your skin is volatile and has the effect of wearing away at the coin and currency which are traded for goods every day. Even if the pieces were never actually circulated, if they have been handled by human hands to any degree it will tarnish the coin in ways which cannot be altered. Cleaning the pieces is an option which some people utilize not knowing that they are actually lowering the value of the piece even more because those who collect them will be able to know whether they have been cleaned or not. You are better off using a <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Supplies/white-gloves">cotton glove</a> to handle all pieces when they are not in protective cases.</p>
<p><strong>The Rarer the Better</strong></p>
<p>One of the things which will help to increase the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-and-Paper-Money/Coins-Ancient">value of coin and currency</a> is when it is no longer in circulation and very few of the pieces are available. The age of the coin has a lot to do with how old it is as well as the period from which it originated. This is because some designs were minted longer than others. The longer the minting period, the more of the pieces you will find and the lower the value will be. Go in the opposite direction and you will find even greater value.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Rolls/Uncirculated">Uncirculated Coins</a> Are the Best</strong></p>
<p>When it comes to coin and currency, the better the condition the piece is in, the more valuable it will be. Those which are worth the most are called uncirculated pieces. These are the pieces which will have just about no marks on them. The more the piece looks like it just came from the mint, the more valuable it will be to a collector. This is especially true when talking about old and <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/Coins-and-Paper-Money/Coins-Ancient">rare coins</a>. In many cases, the appearance of the coin will make it possible for an old or rare coin to jump from a price less than $100 to a price over $1,000 by simply going up 5 or 6 grades.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/silverdollarcloseup.jpg" alt="" title="silverdollarcloseup" width="240" height="180" class="left" /><a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Bullion/Silver">Silver coins</a> are among the most valuable of the coins people collect year to year. There are a few different reasons for this. Knowing the reasons for the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Silver/Foreign-Silver">silver coin value</a> to go up will help you to understand whether you are getting a good deal on a coin you are looking to purchase or if you are purchasing something which is overpriced. You will also be able to determine whether your collection is of extreme value to other collectors or just to yourself.</p>
<p><strong>Rare Coins Are Worth More</strong></p>
<p>Coins which are rare will go up in value by a considerable amount. You can find out how rare a coin is by checking to see how many there are known to exist. The lower the number of coins that exist, the more valuable the coins are likely to be worth in the long run. Reasons for limited numbers can be for reasons of limited production, recalls or simply being a coin which was heavily used so it was heavily lost as well. Coins like the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Silver/Draped-Bust">1804 silver dollar</a> have less than 20 in existence and have extreme <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-Canada/Silver">silver coin value</a> as a result.</p>
<p><strong>The Purer the Coin</strong></p>
<p>Most <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Dollars/Silver">silver coins</a> are not made with pure silver. This is because silver has always had value. To make sure that the coins were not originally worth more than what they were struck as, they were melted and struck with other metals mixed in. These were usually sandwiched between silver layers. The more silver there is in a coin, the more it will be worth. This is both because the purer coins are rarer as well as the fact that the higher the purity of the coin, the more the silver coin value.</p>
<p><strong>Grading is Very Important</strong></p>
<p>One of the best ways to determine the <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/Colonial/Silver">silver coin value</a> is to determine the grade of the coin. In general, all things being equal the grade of the coin from one level to the next will cause the value to jump two to three times. This is taking into account mars and markings which the coin might have picked up along the way. The closer the coin is to Mint State, the more it is worth. The most expensive coins are those which appear as if they have never been touched or damaged.</p>
<p><strong>The Value of the Metal Itself</strong></p>
<p>There are times when a coin has been forged or it has been used so heavily that it has no trade value at all. The only <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Dollars/Silver-Eagle-Proof-1986-Now">silver coin value</a> you will be able to find is in the bullion market itself. This means that the coin will only be worth its weight. This is still a pretty good way to get some cash because the best forgeries still use pure silver as a way to make it appear as if the coin is worth a lot more than it actually is. While you might not have a $10 million piece, you might still have something worth a few hundred.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/saxonconi.jpg" alt="" title="saxonconi" width="240" height="150" class="left" /><a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/">Coin collecting</a> for a long time was pretty wild. You were able to make just about any claim that you wanted to about the coins you were selling and nobody would be any wiser. The first grading scales did not do much to alleviate this. This is because they were based on adjectives rather than on a numbered grading scale. It was difficult to determine a fine from a very fine because the terms were too loose. There were also gaps between the adjectives which allowed for too much play in the defining of the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Europe/UK-Great-Britain">coin value</a>.</p>
<p>Dr. William Herbert Sheldon created a scale in 1948 that us still followed by numismatists to this day. His scale was designed to use numbers rather than names to describe the different grades. While names are still used with the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#The_Sheldon_rarity_scale">Sheldon Scale</a> – as it is known – you are more likely to hear MS65, AU50, F15 or even PR01, rather than Mint State 65, Almost Uncirculated 50, Fine 15 or Poor 01 respectively. The details which surround how a coin will be graded on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#The_Sheldon_rarity_scale">Sheldon Scale</a> are resolute. This means if you find a coin value to be based on a grade of AU52, you are likely to find that another will grade it the same way.</p>
<p><strong>Cheap to Expensive</strong></p>
<p>As the numbers get higher in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#The_Sheldon_rarity_scale">Sheldon Scale</a>, so does the coin value. Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do to change the value of a coin to get a higher grade. The only thing you can do is to store the coin correctly so that the value does not drop. The difference in the grades is often significant from one grade to the next. In fact, depending on the coin, the value can jump 2 to 3 times the value of the grade below it.</p>
<p><strong>A Grade You Can Believe In</strong></p>
<p>One of the great things about the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#The_Sheldon_rarity_scale">Sheldon Scale</a> in terms of <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/">buying and selling collector’s coins</a> is that you will not have to scrutinize the coin once it has been graded. This is of course assuming that you trust the seller. As long as they have a good reputation of buying and selling genuine and well graded coins, you have a pretty good chance that the coins you are purchasing will be at the right <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/">coin value.</a></p>
<p><strong>Maintaining Value</strong></p>
<p>Sustained value is something every <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-and-Paper-Money/Coins-US">coin collector</a> looks for. A coin which increases in value is something every collector hopes for. The good thing about when you purchase a coin that has been graded on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#The_Sheldon_rarity_scale">Sheldon Scale</a> is that you have a better chance of the coin at least maintaining its <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Coins-and-Paper-Money/Coins-US">coin value</a>. This will allow you to enjoy a collection which will hold the value that you have placed into it. The reason why they hold their value is because graded coins rarely lose value over time. They will either stay the same or they will increase in value.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="left" title="1804_Dollar_Carter_Obv" src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/1804_Dollar_Carter_Obv.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" />The most valuable silver dollar is the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Silver/Draped-Bust">1804 Silver Dollar with the Draped Bust</a>. As a side note, this coin is not only the most valuable in the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Dollars/Silver">silver coin</a> category; it is presently the most valuable in the world. As with any coin, there are a few different reasons for the extreme value of the coin. Taking a closer look at these reasons will help you to understand more about <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money">coin collecting</a> in general and what factors a coin can have in order to make it one of the most valuable coins available.</p>
<p>Much of what makes the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Silver/Draped-Bust">1804 silver coin</a> so valuable is the rarity of the coin. Only 15 specimens are known to exist. This is out of the less than 20,000 which were originally produced in 1804 and in 1834. The tale of the coin has a lot to do with the value of the coin as does the beauty of the coin. These are just a few of the factors which make the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Silver/Draped-Bust">Draped Bust</a> one of the most valuable coins in American history and one of the coins which stands among the most valued in the world.</p>
<p><strong>Rarity of the Coin</strong></p>
<p>The rarity of the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Dimes/Silver">silver coin</a> has a lot to do with the value of the coin itself. This is why a coin which has only 15 left in existence is such a valuable coin While many of the coins ended up residing in Siam and Oman, the rest of the coins live in museums like the Smithsonian Institution and the American Numismatic Association Museum. There are only six coins known to exist in private collections. There have been many fakes, but because of the difficulty of reproducing such a coin, most have been discovered.</p>
<p><strong>The Story of the Coin</strong></p>
<p>The original <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Silver/Draped-Bust">1804 silver coin</a> was created in 1804 based on the 1803 die. This was a way for the Mint to be able to save money in order to produce the coins which were needed in circulation. Less than 20,000 of these coins were produced making them few in number to begin with. In 1834 the government reused the die but kept the 1804 date. This was confusing to many people. The coins were then given as gifts to Asian countries to thank them for maintaining trade with the United States.  Between 1858 and 1860 there were two versions of the coin which were struck by Theodore Eckfeldt. These comprise the Class II and Class III versions of the coin and were not intended to be distributed. All of the class II coins were seized by a handful of the Class III coins got out to the public.</p>
<p><strong>The Beauty of the Coin</strong></p>
<p>The <a href="<a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Silver/Draped-Bust">&#8220;>silver coin</a> was created with the intent to look beautiful and its portrayal of lady liberty on the obverse is one of the most striking features. The eagle on the reverse is also quite striking in its use of stars olive branches, arrows and other embellishments.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/coincollecting/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/silverdollaruncirculated.jpg" alt="" title="silverdollaruncirculated" width="240" height="239" class="left" /><a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/">Coin collecting</a> is something which more people are being turned on to every year. The reasons for collecting can be because the collector wants to have a fun hobby. It can also be because the collector wants to have something which is of high value in their possession. No matter what the reason for getting started with <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/">coin collecting</a>, it is important that you will be able to understand how to determine coin values. This is because even if you are not looking to collect coins to turn a profit, you do not want to end up with a fake or a coin which is not what it was advertised to be.</p>
<p>It is actually very simple to understand how to determine coin values as soon as you know what it is that you are looking for. Having the right equipment like a <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Supplies/Magnifiers-Loupes">10X power magnifying loop</a> will help you in this endeavor. You will then be able to look for the kinds of things which will cause a coin to drop down the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading#The_Sheldon_rarity_scale">Sheldon Scale</a>. There are three main things you will need to look for in order to determine the value that you see in a coin.</p>
<p><strong>Luminescence</strong></p>
<p>One of the main things which will separate a <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Bars-Rounds/Mint">Mint State coin</a> from an Almost <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Rolls/Uncirculated">Uncirculated coin</a> is the amount of luminescence or luster the coin has. Only coins which have never been handled by human hands will still have the shine which is present right when the coin is first struck. The less luster the coin has, the less the value of the coin will be. The coin values can drop significantly even if there are no other problems with the coin. This is because the coin will simply not be as attractive to look at.</p>
<p><strong>Scratches</strong></p>
<p>Scratches can happen when the coin is circulated. It can also happen when the coin has been scratched by the machinery when it was struck. This is why there are different levels of the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Australia/Mint-Sets">Mint State coins</a>. While all Mint State coins have higher coin values than other grades, you will not be able to get the full value that a flawless coin would have. There is also a distinction between scratches which occur on the obverse (head) rather than on the reverse (tail). Scratches on the obverse have a much more dramatic effect on the value of the coin.</p>
<p><strong>Wearing</strong></p>
<p>Wearing of the coin is when the face or the obverse is when the relief of the coin is worn down. This wearing will have a huge effect on the coin values. Simply look at the amount of distinction there is in different features. The wearing happens when the coins are rubbed against each other as well as when they are affected by the environment they are in. Some coins which were stored in plastic flips from the 80s were worn down because of the PVC which was contained in the plastic. This caused them to go down in value rather than being protected.</p>

The <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Dollars/Morgan-1878-1921">Morgan Dollars</a> were created in 1878 and was minted until 1904. It was minted for one additional year in 1921. While there are other <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Dollars/Silver">silver dollars</a> which have been minted since, this is one of the best known for its wide varieties of value and the amount of errors which have surrounded the coin. The coin has a picture of lady liberty with part of her neck in profile on the obverse. The eagle is on the reverse.</p>
<p>When looking to buy these <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/Coins-US/Dollars">US dollars</a>, it is common for people to want to purchase the ones which will be worth the most. This means looking for the <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Morgan-1878-1921/1878-84">Morgan Dollars</a> which come from three specific years. This is due in part to the low mintage as well as the high number of controversy and the amount of mistakes which have occurred during the mintage years. The three most valuable years include the years of 1889, 1893 and 1895. In some years the mint is more valuable and in other years the proof is more valuable. It all depends on the amount minted and their value to the collector.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Morgan-1878-1921/1885-93">The 1889-CC Mintage:</a></strong></p>
<p>The CC version of this coin was only able to produce 200,346 coins. This is a very low number when you consider that the majority of years included a mintage which stood more in the millions than in the hundreds of thousands. Finding one of these coins is extremely difficult to do as most of the collectors which have them are looking to hold on to them as long as possible. They know that the price of these <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Morgan-1878-1921/1885-93">Morgan Dollars</a> is apt to go up significantly before they will be ready to sell.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/Morgan-1878-1921/1885-93">The 1893-S Mintage:</a></strong></p>
<p>There were only 100,000 of the <a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/Morgan-1878-1921/1885-93">1893 Morgan Dollars</a> which were minted. This is a number which is disputed as many will tell you that there were actually only 77,000 produced. No matter how many were actually minted, it appears that there are very few left available today. It is estimated that some of these coins which can be graded at MS 65 have a value at or above $600,000. There are other reports which value the coins at far less than that. This means you have some haggling in your future.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Morgan-1878-1921/1894-98">The 1895 Proof:</a></strong></p>
<p>There were only 880 proofs which were made of these <a href="http://www.vintageantiquecollectible.com/money/Morgan-1878-1921/1894-98">Morgan Dollars</a>. To give you an idea of how much the proof is worth, the coin which was a part of a 12,000 set minted is worth $80,000. This means anyone who is holding on to one of these pieces has a small fortune waiting for them when they decide that they are ready to sell. The trick is making sure to find the right buyer and making sure to stick to your guns so that you can get the price that you deserve for having one of the rarest of all of the<a href="http://www.oldrarecoinguide.com/buy/Morgan-1878-1921/1894-98"> Morgan Dollars</a>.</p>
