The best thing for anyone who is considering entering into the world of coin collecting is to do a little research before they begin a collection. It is even a good idea to do some research before one starts to buy the supplies that need to start collecting coins. This is because the more one knows about the art, culture, and technical information regarding collectable coins the more likely they are to be successful coin collectors.

Most of the research one needs to just get stated on creating a coin collection can be done independently. This is because coin collecting has been a serious hobby for some time now and therefore there are many experts on the subject. Many of these experts have created various materials and teaching tools to help those who are getting into the exciting world of collectable coins. This means that the first steps in learning about this type of collection can not only be easy, but they are also quite affordable.

Books to Read

Several of the experts who are recognized as being experts in the world of coin collection have written books on the subject. There are many experts who have written books to make collecting coins easy for those who are just starting to build their collections. Many of these books can be found at your local library. If you are looking for specific books, and you want to obtain a book to keep as reference, you may want to look in your local book store instead. The books you will find on coin collecting basics are generally inexpensive and can be a very wise investment. This is because the information in these books can help you save money and even help you earn money with your future collection.

Looking Online

Many coin collecting enthusiasts have been making use of the internet these days. Some experienced, and even professional coin collectors, are now writing blogs or offer public forums to answer questions about coin collecting. There are even some coin collectors who have begum to offer online video series for those who have just started a coin collection. Now matter which if these internet tools you may you use, there is one thing you will want to look for in all of them. You will want to make sure that the coin experts you are getting your information are independent. Those who are not may really be trying to sell you their coins or other services. This will ensure that the information you getting is real.

Attending Seminars

Some expert coin collectors have been known to hold coin collecting seminars. Many of these collectors and even some coin vendors hold their seminars about how to start a coin collection at coin trade shows and related events. These seminars and classes can be a great way for new collectors to get information and have their questions answered on the spot by coin experts.

This couldn’t be more true than it is for those who are looking to start a coin collection. With thousands of different coins available to collect, it can be hard to understand where to start or know how to start.

There are a few different things that you can do to get a coin collection started. These tips are going to help you to start a strong collection that will be easy to grow and expand. Each of these four tips is important for a different reason – be sure to understand and consider each of these steps.

Set a Starting Budget

One of the biggest mistakes that someone starting a coin collection can make is blowing their entire budget on one coin when they start their collection. These individuals get excited about super rare coins or coins of high value and pick it up. They fail to realize that part of the fun of coin collecting is picking up multiple coins and continuing the search for a new coin. If you spend all of your money on your first coin, you will have nothing to look forward to until you have more money. This can kill your momentum and your drive for new coins.

Talk to a Coin Collector Shop Owner

It is important for you to gain knowledge of the world of coin collecting as you work to start your own collection. Talk to a coin collector shop owner about starting a coin collection. They will be able to teach you as much as possible about things like coin values and counterfeits, helping you to make smart decisions as you look to start your collection.

Plan Your Collection

While it may be tempting to simply jump into coin collecting, you need to have something resembling a plan of attack. Think about coin values and the type of coin collection that you want to have. This will help you to plan your collection out. You will be able to see what coins you are going to collect, helping you as you budget for future purchases.

Have Fun!

It is important to think about coin values, your budget, and the theme that your coin collection will follow. With that being said, it is also important to let loose and have fun with your collection. It can be easy to get wrapped up in the serious aspects of coin collecting, quickly taking the fun out of the coin collecting hobby. A random coin purchase here and an over-budget purchase there will help to keep the collection fun and interesting for you.

There are plenty of other tips and tricks that you will want to put into play as you work to start your coin collection. Research as much as possible about coin collecting to learn what else you should do to get your collection going in the right direction.

With that being said, the world of paper money is completely different than coin money.

There are a couple of things that you want to consider if you are going to debate a paper money purchase. Taking the time to think about these various aspects of paper currency collection and the purchase that you are thinking of making will help you to make the right decision.

The Cost

The first thing that you are going to want to consider when debating a paper money purchase is the cost. You truly need to sit down and think about the purchase that you are about to make and how it will affect your budget. If you do not think you have the money to spend on this particular piece of money, do not do it.

You also want to think about cost in terms of value. You want to look into the actual value of the paper money that you are thinking about buying. You should never overpay for paper currency, as you will find that you lose money on the investment in the long run.

The Rarity

If you find yourself debating a paper money purchase you need to think about the rarity of the paper currency you are thinking about buying. If a piece is incredibly rare and is a piece you have been looking for, you may want to make the purchase right away. If it is a form of paper currency that you find all of the time, you can pass it up and know that you will eventually find it again when you are ready to make that purchase.

Your Collection

It is important for you to think about your entire collection when thinking about a paper money purchase. You need to think about whether or not it is a necessary purchase for our collection, and whether or not it is going to enhance your collection. If you think that the paper currency is not going to add any important value or interest to your collection, why make the purchase in the first place?

You need to take all of these different factors into consideration before you make your final decision about the paper money purchase. You may find that it will be the perfect addition to your collection, or may find that you should not spend the money on this particular piece of money at this time. Be sure to take the time to think about these various factors each and every time you consider one of these purchases. It will help to ensure that you do not spend too much money or make an unnecessary purchase for your collection.

The Avon Company has been a respected institution in the United States since 1886, and their line of decorative collectibles contain some of the most sought after pieces on record. The company first began producing Avon collectibles in the mid-1960’s and they were instantly a hit. The vast majority of Avon collectibles are containers that once held products, although you can now find plush and other forms that are all valuable.

If you come across an Avon collectible, there are a few ways to make sure that you are dealing with the real thing. First, the piece should have Avon’s mark on the bottom, and may also contain the date that the piece was made. Ideally, if it was intended to hold a product, this should all be there, but finding one of these pieces is rare indeed. If there is no longer product in the Avon collectible, it should be completely clean.

Most Avon collectibles came with a certificate of authenticity. The pieces that still have their original certificates are considered to be the most valuable, so start your search for these pieces first. While there are a few rare models on the market that do not have certificates, generally it is best to find one that does still have this authentication.

For the most part, Avon collectibles are priced in a range that allows most people the chance to get a few pieces. There are a few very rare pieces that will sell in the thousands, but generally, they will be priced anywhere from $50 to $500. The older pieces from the 1960’s will generally fetch more money than newer items, and there is always sentimental value to consider as well.

One of the best places to find rare Avon collectibles is online or at your local flea market. Keep an eye out for these brightly colored figurines, since you never know when you may come across a great value. Always make sure to inspect your piece thoroughly however before you buy it. A single crack can greatly diminish the overall value of a piece.

If you are dealing with an online seller of Avon collectibles, make sure that they include pictures from every angle so that you have a better idea of the overall condition. The pictures should be close enough so that you can see any surface imperfections. If they are not, you may want to ask the seller to provide better photographs so that you know exactly what you are buying.

Avon collectibles are a great way to introduce children into the world of collecting. Their bright colors, fanciful designs and overall lower price make them an ideal starter collection for just about anyone. Whether you are looking for a specific piece that you remember from childhood, or you are completely new to Avon collectibles, this is a fun collection that you can share with the entire family. Consider starting your own collection of Avon collectibles today and see how many great pieces you can find.

There are positives and negatives to working with each shop – pros and cons that you would not figure out if you do not take the time to look into each shop.

There are a few different things that you are going to want to look into as you work to find a coin collector shop that can meet your needs. These are some of the things that you will want to look into as you work to expand your collection.

Reputation

You do not want to work with a coin collector shop that is known for pushing counterfeit bills or for poor customer service. Speak with other collectors in your area and read online reviews to get a feel for the different coin collector shops in your area. You may find that there are a few rotten eggs in your town, coin collector shops that you will not want to work with for your own collection.

Variety

You want to work with coin collector shops that have a wide variety of pieces. A collector shop that is too narrow in their coin and paper money choices will often fail to have the pieces that you are looking for. A store with variety is constantly changing, and may eventually have the coins that you are interested in collecting.

Fair Price

You should never work with a company that is prone to trying to rip people off. Take a look at the prices of the coins that you know the value of. While slightly higher prices are to be expected, price gouging is not. If you find a shop that is practicing in price gouging, you may want to move on to a different coin collector shop.

Negotiations

The only saving grace for shops that charge too much are shops that are willing to negotiate. They may often be willing to negotiate drastically – simply raising prices to ensure that they wind up with a fair deal for the coin on their own end of the sale. If you run into a coin collector shop with high prices that is unwilling to negotiate, move on to a different shop. You should never pay too much for a coin.

If you are serious about coin collecting you are going to want to make sure that you find reputable coin collector shops to work with. These different shops are going to be able to provide you with the coins and paper money that you need for your collection. They will offer the money at fair prices and will help you to ensure you avoid counterfeits. These are just some of the major benefits of a good coin collector shop that are found when you know what to look for in each shop.

You might think a half dime is simply a modern nickel. But half dimes were actually silver coins worth 5 cents that were minted before the coins that eventually became our modern nickels. They were authorized in 1792, much smaller than the dimes of the time and much thinner, giving them the actual appearance of being almost half a dime. When lobbyists fought to have nickel included in the creation of new coins in the 1860s, the new three- and five-cent coins pushed out the older silver coins so the original half dimes were last minted in 1873.

The US half dime was minted from 1794 to 1873, and was one of the original coins minted in the United States. The first design is known as the Flowing Hair design because of the Liberty’s flowing hair, but was only struck for 2 years before being changed to the Draped Bust, Small Eagle design. This design also lasted for only 2 years, before half dime minting stopped and wasn’t resumed against until 1800. This design was known as the Large Eagle design, with the Great Seal of the United States appearing on the reverse of the coin. These were struck until 1805, and then no more were minted until 1829.

The half dime that returned in 1829 now bore the words “five cents” instead of half dime. The design appearing on this coin lasted until 1837, when a Seated Liberty design once again bearing the words half dime was minted. New minting in 1837 saw the silver content lessen, though the coins remained the same size. In 1840 the design was changed to include drapery and stars, and wasn’t changed again significantly after that. After the Civil War in 1866, nickel-based 5-cent coins were circulated at the same time as silver half dimes but 1873 saw the last half dimes minted to make way for the 5-cent coins.
Of all the half dimes available today, the 1802 Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle is one of the most rare and collectible. Only a little over 13,000 of them were struck, but only about 16 are known to exist today. The half dime is still an interesting conversation piece, aside from its collector and real-world value.

Because the silver content of the half dime dropped long before minting stopped, people tended to try to acquire the earlier half dimes so more of the newer coins were struck to replace them. The most valuable coins are the earlier ones with higher silver content, though some were actually minted without the name of the country because of a die problem, and these are valuable novelties for coin collectors.

The half dime is a fairly rare coin so the best places to find one in good condition are places like eBay where a huge variety of sellers can present their items. The best way to find the value of a coin is to consult a coin guide, and compare that to the most recent information you can find online.

Those who put time, energy, money, and heart into their collections should be doing everything that they can for their collection. Many fail to realize that one important way to take care of your collection is to document it.

There are two main reasons to completely document the collection that you have. The first reason it to make sure that you have a full record of your coins for personal use. You may have a large collection and can easily forget which coins you already have. Secondly, you need to work to document your collection in case of emergencies and for insurance purposes. The following tips will help you to document your collection.

Be Detailed With a Spreadsheet

It is important for you to provide as much detail as possible to your documentation when trying to document all of the coins that you have in your collection. You need to make sure you list the official name of the coin, any nicknames you may have for the coin, the amount you paid for the coin, the mint location of the coin, the year of the coin, and possibly the current value of each coin. The more information that you have, the better your documentation will be and the more useful the documentation will be.

Take Photographs of Each Coin

One of the best ways for you to document your coin collection is to take pictures of each of the coins. This will help you to better understand the mint of each coin as compared to others and provides a visual recording of your collection. For the most organized documentation possible, match up the coins in the spreadsheet with their images. Labeling each coin with a specific number and labeling each picture with the corresponding number will help to keep your organized and your coin collection well documented.

Have Values Appraised

If you are serious about coin collecting, you are serious about the value of your coins. Have your entire collection appraised to give yourself the ultimate documentation. You will receive a value for each coin and an overall value for your collection. Both numbers are important, as they will help you to understand your investments and how much your collection is worth overall. The more information that you have about each coin, the stronger your documentation is. Ask the person who is appraising your collection to list the coin with the value. This will make it easier for you to add the information into your own documentation after the appraisal is complete.

There are plenty of individuals who have large coin collections that are undocumented. They cannot tell you exactly what coins they have, an serious problem that could haunt them in an emergency. If you are serious about coin collecting and are serious about the coins that you have, take the time to correctly document your coin collection.

It helps to make sure that they do not overspend for coins, as they do not want to spend far over the actual value of the coin. Budgeting is key to a successful collection, as it promotes and ensures longevity.

Cleaning and Displaying

Some people will try to get into serious coin collecting without thinking about the changes that are found. Many of these people are surprised to find out that they need to clean their coins and that they need to consider more serious and professional ways of displaying the coins. You need to clean all of the coins to make sure that they stay in mint condition – those who do not take care of their coins will find that the coins lose value and can be damaged. If yo are more serious about collecting, you are also going to want to display your coins. These displays take time to build and require some money to put together.

Negotiating

If you do not work on your negotiation skills when you work to collect coins, you will pay too much. Your collection will not be as successful, and may wind up costing you far too much money. Practice your negotiation skills and do not be scared to negotiation. Learning how to work prices down and knowing when to walk away when the other party will not back down are key aspects of serious collecting. You will spend less money and will increase the value of your own collection.

It is important for all to understand that they can turn coin collecting into anything that they want to. You can take this as seriously or as light-heartedly as you would like. Just know that this is a type of hobby that is incredibly easy to become immersed in. You should fully understand the life of a serious coin collector and think about whether or not this is the type of serious collecting you can handle. You may find that this is right up your alley, or that you want to take collecting less seriously and know what you what to avoid.

Antique doors have much to offer the private collector and many of these, depending on the materials used, and the designer may actually be worth quite a lot of money. Whether you are looking for a collectible that you can put to good use right in your own home, or you are seeking an antique door to complete a period house, there are many different types of doors available.

Pocket Doors

These were very popular in the Victorian era and were commonly used to separate parlors and dining areas from the rest of the house. Typically made of wood and highly ornate, they would slip into a recess in the wall when they were not in use. If you do plan to purchase pocket antique doors to use in your home, be advised you will need to have a niche carved out of your wall and a track system installed in order for it to work properly.

Stained Glass Window Doors

During the arts and crafts period and particularly several hundred years before that era took place, having stained glass windows in doors was incredibly popular. The antique doors you can find today range from simple and elegant to incredibly ornate. The stained glass may even be worth a small fortune in its own right. These doors can add value to any home and they are a beautiful example of craftsmanship.

Carved Doors

The Victorian era and the preceding eras brought us ornate carved wooden antique doors and many of these are still available today. Typically quite large and heavy, some range over twelve feet high, depending on the house where they were installed. These are a beautiful collectible and many are very valuable, especially the ones that are more ornate.

Bar Doors

Believe it or not bar doors, or saloon doors as they were commonly called are actually very popular. These swinging antique doors may have once graced a saloon from the 1800’s when the west was wild. These are a fun collectible, and very useful if you want to block your kitchen off from the rent of the house, but don’t want to go to the trouble of installing a brand new door system.

French Doors

A common fixture in homes in the South and throughout Europe, French doors are a great collectible to have if you are interested in antique doors. Many will still have their original glass panes still intact. These are a great solution for homes where the owner needs to block off a room from the rest of the house without breaking up the visual flow. Commonly, these are used in bedrooms, dens and offices.

These are just a few examples of the types of antique doors you can find today. Head on over to a second hand store, a garage sale or you can go online to find some great deals and rare finds. You never know what you may come across and you may end up with a very valuable antique door.

The value of a 1902 Barber dime varies, depending mostly on the condition of the dime. While the face value may be only 10 cents, they’re often worth several dollars—sometimes hundreds of dollars. The best way to determine the value of your Barber dime is to consult an up to date coin value guide. The best way to find the most current information is by looking on numismatic websites and auction sites where these dimes are available to see the most recent pricing on them.

The history of the dime in general goes back to 1796, with the front of the coin bearing a Liberty head and the reverse featuring an eagle. The dime is the smallest US coin, and its appearance has changed many times over the years. A 1902 Barber dime is so named because it was a coin designed by Charles E. Barber. While the earliest dimes changed many times, our current dime has been the same since 1946. Our current design is smaller than the original dime, and the materials used today are different, as well.

The first coins representing a tenth of a dollar or ten cents were actually called dismes, minted in 1792, but weren’t circulated. The first actual dimes appeared in 1796 and are referred to by numismatics today as the Draped Bust dime. These coins bore no value on them anywhere, unlike today’s dimes which clearly say they’re worth 10 cents. In 1809 the design was changed to what’s now known as the Capped Bust dime, which bore the marking 10C on the reverse. Neither of these early dimes was minted each year they were available, but a dime has been minted almost every year without fail since 1827. The Barber dime appeared in 1892, with the 1902 Barber dime representing only one year of the design’s 24-year history, ending in 1916. The previous design, though, was minted far longer. The Seated Liberty design debuted in 1837 and was minted for 54 years, until the Barber dime took its place. The only dime that has been minted longer is the Roosevelt dime that has now been minted for 62 years.

The 1902 Barber dime isn’t the most valuable dime available of its design. The 1894-S has been known to go for more than one million dollars at auction—the highest amount ever drawn for a single dime—because only 24 of these particular coins were struck, and of those, only 9 still exist as far as collectors and the US Treasury are aware.

Still, the 1902 Barber dime carries much more than the value of 10 cents. The coins have silver content, so even a coin worn practically smooth carries scrap silver value. A common method in determining the value of this coin is how clear the inscription of “Liberty” is on Lady Liberty’s headband on the front of the coin. The less worn and more distinct the inscription, the more valuable the coin. Proofs and circulated coins alike are easily found on eBay.
