The Russian ruble collector is likely someone who doesn’t just love coins, but has an interest in Russia’s heritage as a country. One of the problems with purchasing rubles is that counterfeiting has always been a common thing with Russian coins. And not just to produce fake money to use, but rather to simply copy a design for novelty. If you find one of these “authentic forgeries” you’ll probably pay quite a high price, as they’re valuable today. But other counterfeits, like circulated coins, are worth nothing.

The Russian ruble is also represented with paper currency, which saw less counterfeiting than the coins. It wasn’t uncommon for the early rubles of the 15th century to be counterfeited by the people, as they were merely oddly shaped bars of silver and easily reproduced. When coins were minted with designs, forgery became more difficult for common people. But the wealthy often ordered coins reproduced for them to keep as collector items.

One way to spot these collector forgeries in a Russian ruble is to look at the edge. Often there will be markings on the edge that you won’t find on an authentic Russian coin. Because these forgeries weren’t created for the purpose of purchasing goods, but instead to be kept as collector items, they’re usually in excellent condition and are very valuable, though they have no worth as currency.

Another way to detect a forged Russian ruble is to learn a little about the history of Russia and her coinage. With a little bit of reading and research, you can spot which rubles are the most rare and unlikely to be found in large lots where people buy coins, either from collectors or in places like eBay online.

The rarest Russian ruble, for instance, is one that coin collectors might want to own, even though it’s virtually impossible. The silver Constantine is the rarest. Only a few are known to be in existence, and the last genuine Constantine was sold for the largest price ever earned by a single coin in auction.

The value of this coin springs from the fact that the Russian ruble was minted when it was believed that Constantine would take over power after Alexander’s death. But Constantine abdicated the throne, after some coins were already created. For collectors who like the history behind this particular coin and would like it represented in their collection, a reproduction can be found for an affordable price, just to have as a novelty.

A ruble can be a great piece for a coin collector or even someone who collects things representing Russia’s and the Soviet Union’s diverse history. Whether paper rubles or coins, the designs on both show some of the best Russian engraving art created. The ruble isn’t much of an investment for its currency value, as the value is low compared to other world currencies. But as a piece for a coin collector or someone interested in Russia’s history, a Russian ruble can be a valuable part of a collection.

Stamps -> Europe -> Spain & Colonies

When looking for old Spain stamps, online auctions like eBay are a great place to search. Often, auctions are in lots so you get several stamps to add to your collection, often from many different countries and time periods. Some stamps can also be purchased individually, with or without ready-made displays. With a little research and some time spent browsing the auctions, you can find an excellent deal on the stamps you want to buy.

Queen Isabella II, the Queen of Spain, issued a decree in 1849 for the use of postage stamps on correspondence. After watching England first embrace the use of the postage stamp, starting in 1840, and then seeing that use spread to France, the Queen of Spain decided after 9 years that it was a good idea, so she got her country on board by approving the first Spain stamps.

In the two months between the decree and the actual issuance of stamps in early 1850, many rules were handed down about their use. In this time is was decreed that they were to go on the top left corner of the letter, and they could only be used to mail pre-paid letters within Spain, and to Italy. The two original designs on Spain stamps were reproduced 100 years later, in 1950, to celebrate 100 years of stamps, and then in 1964 for International Stamp Day

The Spanish Penny Black, named after the first postage stamp in Great Britain, bears an image of the queen, just as most Spain stamps did until she abdicated the throne in 1868. During the time when here face graced these stamps, a special postmark was used that wold not deface the image of the stamp, but rather frame her face respectfully, by her own request. She didn’t want the image of her face on each stamp to be marked over by a “demeaning” cancel mark. Metallic ink was first used on Spain stamps in 1853 when reduced cost stamps bearing Madrid’s coat of arms were printed for letters delivered within the city.

Spain stamps were changed yearly because officials were afraid of forgery. This resulted in Spain’s high creation of stamps—285 different stamps in 20 years, making them less than sought after by early collectors. In 1966 on the anniversary of the first postage stamp in the world, the Penny Black, Spain issued 3 commemorative stamps for International Stamp Day, in which the covers and postmarks were reproduced, something not yet done in stamp design, so these are interesting for collectors based on that alone.

When shopping for Spain stamps, note how the auction lists the condition of the stamp, whether or not gumming remains on the back, whether or not it’s alone or in a sheet or coil, and the general condition of the stamp. Also, if it’s in a lot, clarify if the lot is all Spain stamps, or if they’re from a variety of sources. And don’t discount lots of mixed stamps, sometimes you’ll find an unexpected treasure in them.

Among the many different things that you will need to look for is on the items that you have in your collection itself. These include all of the different things that you might notice about the money notes that you have in your collection. By getting to know the different things that you should look for, you will be able to learn more about value and everything else involving your collection.

In order to be able to learn everything that you are looking to learn about your money notes, you will need to be able to pay attention to certain details. You should learn what your notes are supposed to look like so that you will notice imperfections in the printing or cutting of the notes. You will also be able to notice the different things like cuts and tears which will affect the value. Additionally, you will be able to learn how you will be able to spot a forgery should you ever come across one.

Discover about Printing Errors

There are many different things which will help to increase the value of money notes. Among the different things which will help you to be able to establish a greater value in what you are purchasing is that you will be able to notice printing or cutting errors. These have become something which will increase the value even more as the printing methods have been perfected and mistakes have become less common. You will be able to get everything that you are looking for by knowing what to look for.

Learn about Faults in the Bill

Another thing that you will need to be able to look at is that you will need to be able to pay attention to the different faults that a bill might have. These different faults will help to cause the bill to drop in value from what it should be. The more you will be able to know about the different faults and how they can affect the value of your collection, the more that you will be able to get out of the collection that you have.

Spot a Forgery

Another thing that you will need to be able to pay attention to whenever you are looking to collect money notes is that you will be able to spot whenever you encounter a forgery. This will allow you to be able to get everything that you will need so that you will be able to make sure that you are not buying something which will not be worth what you are hoping to get. Of course, if you already have something in your collection which is a forgery, you will be able to establish whether it is an old forgery or a recent one in which you might need to go after the person who sold you the item.
