Collectibles -> Decorative Collectibles -> Franklin Mint

One of the most popular brands of collectibles are Franklin Mint Collectibles. This company is well known throughout the world for providing collectible editions at reasonable prices and they even offer payment plans for their more expensive items. This has allowed thousands, if not millions of people the ability to start their own private collections. No matter what you are interested in collecting, chances are there are Franklin Mint Collectibles that are perfect for you.

Here are just a few of the different types of Franklin Mint Collectibles that are currently available.

Coins

This is actually where the Franklin Mint Collectibles company got their start and they have produced many different collectible coins throughout the years. Most are in gold or silver, but there are a few commemorative coins made out of cheaper materials. For those looking for a higher end collectible from the mint, these are a good choice. Thanks to their payment plan, you can usually end up with a very valuable collection of coins.

Plates

These are probably the most common Franklin Mint Collectibles and hundreds of designs are available. They have plates for events, movies, television characters, singers and pretty much every other topic under the sun. While these may not be incredibly valuable, they are great decorative collectibles and they are fun to amass. For those on a budget, these plates offer a great way to decorate your home.

Figurines

The Franklin Mint Collectibles company also produces collectible figurines. Many of these are designed by the mint and are exclusive to their company, while others are licensed through other venues. These are a little more valuable and more expensive than the plates, but they are still considered to be priced at entry levels. The larger figurines are typically more expensive, but they will also usually be more valuable later on as well.

Books

Although these ended production in 2000, they are still quite popular. The Franklin Mint Collectibles company produced many different collectible books between 1973 and 2000 and offered collectors the rare chance to get some great literature. Although they are no longer made, you can still find these volumes at flea markets, auctions, online auctions and even through local garage sales. For those that love books, this is a natural collectible and there are some great titles that they released that can’t be found anywhere else.

Assorted Collectibles

The Franklin Mint Collectibles company produces numerous types of decorative collectibles, including pocket knives, chess sets and board games, Monopoly special editions, steins, and other common collectibles. Many of these feature pop culture icons and a few are actually quite valuable. These are still in production today and account for a large portion of the company’s business.

No matter what you like to collect, there’s a big chance that the Franklin Mint Collectibles company produces it. While these may not have the same dollar value as vintage collectibles right now, many will continue to grow in value as the years go by.

For many people, the idea of ancient coin collecting has become a true passion as well as a real life hunt for treasure. Because it is relatively inexpensive for a ancient coin collecting hobby to be started, you can collect a myriad of different ancient coins from all over the globe as simply as logging into the internet.

With the large variety of different types of coins that are available, from modern coins to ancient ones, it is important that you select a specific category of coins that you want to collect. You may choose ancient coin collecting or you may choose some other type of collecting depending on what you are interested in.

When getting into ancient coin collecting, what you should do is to gather coins that come from either a certain country, or a specific period of time. There are a number of inexpensive coins that you can fall back to in order to get started without spending a lot. Some examples are:

The British Half-Farthing, which hails from between 1842 and 1869, and which was criticized for being too small of a denomination,

The French Rooster Franc,

The Chinese Gold Panda,

The Silver Drachma, which was used around the time of the rule of Alexander the Great,

The Silver Denarius, which hails from the earliest Roman Empire,

There are other ways to grow your collection of coins as well, such as by collecting:

United States coins, including commemorative coins for example,

Particular coins, such as coins that fall into a specific denomination or a specific type of coin, such as by collecting only Washington quarters, or only silver half-dollar coins,

Coins with a specific theme, such as coins that feature animals, or coins that feature vehicles, or monuments, or anything else that you can think of.

Coins with errors, since even mints are capable of making mistakes, and there are a myriad of different error coins that you can find, including coins with the wrong inscription, the wrong form, the wrong design or the wrong date on them.

Any time you are choosing a coin to collect, it is important that you determine the value and worth of the coin before you purchase it. Determining what the coin is worth is going to allow you to make sure that you get a good deal on the coins that you purchase. You should never spend more for a coin than it is worth on the market, because someone will be asking the market price, and others will be asking more. Just shop around until you find the ancient coin you want for the price it’s really worth.

Coins and Paper Money -> Coins: Canada -> Commemorative

Whether you are from Canada, or just interested in collecting Canadian coins, there are plenty of options out there and many of these coins are actually quite valuable. Before you get started with your collection, it’s a good idea to know what is out there and which coins will be the best investment. Here’s a quick guide to Canadian coins to get you started.

1. Gold and Platinum Coins

By far, the most valuable Canadian coins are the ones that are made from platinum or gold. You’ll find many commemorative coins made of these materials and some are worth more than the actual face value of the coin. If you’re looking for a solid investment with a history of growth, these coins are a great option. While not all are incredibly valuable, the majority will be worth at the very least their face value.

2. Loonies and Twoonies

Loonies are a very popular Canadian coin, so called due to the design on the coin. This is a dollar coin and it can be a bit harder to find the older ones. If you happen across a Loonie, it’s a great idea to keep it since it may be worth quite a lot of money. Twoonies are also popular and this is a two dollar coin that is a real collector’s item. Not many people actually use these, so it is possible to get your hands on one that has not been circulated.

3. Province Coins

Just like the US and the state quarters, there are province specific Canadian coins that are very valuable. It’s a lot of fun to see if you can get all the provinces and this is also a fun hobby for kids that combines geography with stamp collecting. The commemorative ones are going to be the most valuable in these coins, but there is still a lot of demand for these on the market.

4. Collections, Lots

If you want a jump start towards building your collection of Canadian coins, one of the best ways to do that is to get an entire collection in one fell swoop. You can usually find these at auction and in many cases, there will be at least one or two very rare stamps in the collection. Even if you already have a large personal collection, this is usually a very economical way to add to and even discover some new stamps along the way.

5. Proof Sets

These are probably the rarest and hardest to find in Canadian coins, but if you do come across a proof, you can almost guarantee that it will be worth quite a bit of money. These are the proofs that are used when they are minting coins, and there are many antique ones that are very popular right now.

No matter what kind of Canadian coins you are interested in collecting, you can find them at auction, online and even from private dealers. Give collecting these coins a try and see what rare finds you can come across.

Among the most popular to collect is the American coin. This is because to date the American coin collector is one of the preeminent collectors in the industry. Other countries like Australia and Canada are starting to grow in the amount of collectors, but they still do not compare to the amount of collectors which have established themselves in the United States. This presents an opportunity and a challenge for all people looking to get started collecting these types of coins.

If you are looking to get started with your own American coin collection, there are a few things you should keep in mind. The first thing that you will have to decide is how much you are willing to spend on your collection. Once you have this figured out, you may want to decide how you would like to display your collection. You should always make sure that the coins you purchase have been graded and certified so that you will know that you have a collection which is genuine and also you will know how much your collection is worth.

How Much You Will Pay

Coin collecting is a hobby which everyone can get involved in. If you do not have a lot of money, you can start by collecting some of the commemorative coins which are put out by the U.S. Mint. These include the state quarters and the recent President dollars. Those looking to spend more money can chase the Morgan silver dollar or even seek out the gold 1933 Eagle coin. Spending a lot of money only means that your collection will be worth a lot now. It is possible to spend a little and end up with treasures which will be worth a fortune later as long as you take good care of them.

Different Ways to Display Your Coin Collection

Collections can be displayed in a number of different ways. The most common way to display a collection is laid out on a luminescent surface. This is because you will likely have the coins in the slab that they were put into when they were certified. Others will decide to instead display their coins in a matted frame. These do not have to be reserved for just commemorative coins. You can use the mat for just about any kind of coin as long as you do not mind that it is out of reach.

Grading and Certification

Having your coins graded by a third party is a great way to make sure that your American coin collection is certified as the quality that it is. This is a great way to know what it is that you have in your collection. It is also a great way to make sure that you will be able to protect your coins for future generations to enjoy. The sooner you get it graded and certified, the sooner you will stop any aging problems the coin might encounter.

There are a few different kinds of coins which you will find in most every collection. Rare coins are among the most prized of all coins you will find in a collection. Of course, these are not the only coins which you will find in a collection. You will also find that most collections will have at least one commemorative coin. This begs the question as to why these kinds of coins would be so collectible. The more you find out about commemorative coins, the more it will make sense to own the coins in your own collection.

For most people, the answer to why the commemorative coin is collectible is because it is instantly valuable. The coins value of each coin will depend on a few different factors. It will depend on the amount of coins which are produced. The beauty of the coins and the story behind the coins also plays a large part in how valuable the coins will be to you and other numismatics. Keep these things in mind when you are going to buy your next commemorative issue coin from the mint or from another collector.

Volume of Striking

In most cases a commemorative coin is struck with only a limited number being put into production. This means that the coins are instantly rare. The less the coins which are created, the less you will find that you or anyone else can obtain. If the coin is intended for distribution as legal tender as the state quarters are, only the ones which are graded in Mint Status (MS60 – MS69) are considered to be worth anything other than a quarter. This is because anything which has been held by human hands has nothing unique about it. It is common.

Beauty of the Coin

The beauty of the commemorative coin is very important in terms of its value. This is because all else, people like to look at the coins. The more striking the coin is, the more it will be worth to the numismatic crowd. Coins like the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle are prized not only because they are rare. They are prized because they are considered by most to be one of the most beautiful coins ever to be struck by the Mint.

The Story Behind the Coin

Often if the commemorative coin has a good story attached to it, it will increase the value of the coin. This can be the reason why the coin was created in the first place. It can also be because the coin went through a lot of turmoil to get to the point in history where it currently resides. The more interesting the story, the more the coin is worth. Often the story behind the coin will be what has led to the rarity of the coin or the beauty of the coin. This is why many of the commemorative coins which are sold are either graded and slabbed or they are sealed in a frame which tells the story of the coin.

One of the oldest and still the most collectible of coins are the gold coins. In order to make sure that you are getting the best gold coin prices, it is important that you are able to properly determine what the prices are. You will be able to determine the prices for the gold coins that you want to buy by going through a few easy steps.

The first thing you will need to do when determining gold coin prices is that you will have to determine how rare a coin is. Next you will need to determine what the grade of the coin is. Last you will need to determine what the market has recently been trading the coin at. These factors will help to determine exactly what the prices are that you will need to sell your gold coins at so that you will get a fair price for them without overcharging those who are buying from you.

Rarity of your Coins

The coins you are looking to buy or sell will have a specific rarity to them which will help you determine the price of the silver coins. The rarer the coin is, the higher the gold coin prices. This is the trump card. If the coin is very rare you will be able to charge a lot when you sell it. Look for coins which have a rate of less than a few thousand when they were struck or a current rate of less than a hundred.

Grading of Coins

All coins can be graded on the Sheldon Scale. This is a scale which goes between 1 and 70. 1 is the poorest quality and 70 is the best you can get. The higher the grade of the coin, the more valuable the gold coin prices will be. The best idea when you are looking to grade these coins is to get them graded by the professional associations like PSCG, NGC and ICG. These will offer grading which will be recognized throughout the industry as a grade which can be trusted as being genuine.

Market Price for Coins

The last thing you will need to do in order to determine gold coin prices is to look at what the industry has traded the coins for recently. You will be able to get the prices which will be undisputed by the others in the industry that you are looking to sell to because they will be able to look at the same reports that you saw and they will be able to see that they are getting a fair price. While they might be able to argue the rarity and the grade, they cannot argue the price in the market.

These coins are produced to commemorate, to celebrate or to honor people, events, places and institutions for a number of reasons. When it comes to commemorative coins and coin collections, these coins are typically divided into two different eras, Old and Modern. Old commemorative coins are coins between 1892 and 1981, and Modern commemorative coins are coins from between 1982 and present day.

There have been a wide variety of different people that through the years have been memorialized in the form of United States commemorative coins. Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Leif Erickson, Christopher Columbus and Chief Justice John Marshall are all examples of people that have been commemorated in this fashion. Ulysses S. Grant, Queen Isabella of Spain and Daniel Boone have also been commemorated in this way in the past as well.

There have also been a number of places that have been honored through the creation of commemorative coins, including the White House, West Point and the Smithsonian. The White House was honored with a 200th Anniversary commemorative coin in 1992. The West Point military school was honored in 2002 for their Bicentennial. The Smithsonian was honored in 1996 for their 150th anniversary.

There have also been a number of events that have been honored through the creation of commemorative coins. The Korean War was commemorated in the form of a Silver Dollar in 1991, and then the Vietnam War received a similar Silver Dollar commemorative coin in 1994 after its memorial’s 10th anniversary. These commemorative coins were created not only to commemorate the creation of the memorials, but also to honor the men who died during those wars.

The Statute of Liberty has also been honored through the creation of numerous commemorative coins. In 1986, three commemorative coins were created to honor the Statue of Liberty, including a half dollar coin, a silver dollar coin and a $5 golf coin. The Statue of Liberty is not only a place worthy of being honored, but the commemorative coins are also meant to honor freedom, democracy and the gift from France to the United States represented by the gift of the statute.

Collectors may choose to collect different commemorative coins depending on what concepts their collections are aimed to symbolize. There are commemorative coins for many different purposes including the Olympic games, the bill of rights, World War II, the civil war battlefields, the Bicentennial of the constitution, desegregation at the Little Rock Central High School, the first flight on the behalf of the Wright Brothers and many others. No matter what type of coin collection you are creating, there are commemorative coins that will fit right in.
