Rare coins are a special part of coin collecting, providing individuals with goals to set and coins to chase.

There are some coins that are more rare than others, making them more elusive and more interesting. Having information on these coins will help you to understand their history and to understand exactly what is so unique about the coins. These are just some of the rare coins that you may want to add to your collection.

1943 Copper Penny

Wars tend to bring out interesting pieces of money for collectors, and the 1943 copper penny is no exception. The penny was created during the Second World War – a time when copper was rationed. Most were made out of brass and steel, but some were made out of bronze. Those that were made out of a bronze/copper alloy are incredibly rare.

Morgan Silver Dollars

Morgan Silver dollars come from a wide variety of years, ranging from anything from 1879 to 1921. These are considered to be some of the strongest coins for coin collectors in the United States and abroad. For one, the coin is known as incredibly rare. No matter the year, these different coins are hard to get a hold of. And add to your collection. There are some that are harder to get a hold of than others, like the 1895 Morgan Silver Dollar. These coins generally did not see circulation, meaning that most of them are in mint condition. This simply raises their value and cost.

The $20 Double Eagle

The United States minted Gold Double Eagles, coins that were worth $20 and were made out of a 90% gold alloy. The coins were put into circulation from 1850 to 1933. These coins have become incredibly rare, and are some of the most sought after in the world. The 1933 has the special distinction of being the hardest to find. This was the final year of the Double Eagle, a year that was never supposed to actually see circulation. Anyone who holds this coin will hold a pricey piece – the last coin found went up for auction and sold for nearly $8 million.

You do not need to try to add these coins to your collection to be able to have a good and strong collection. These are simply some of the coins that serious coin collectors enjoy hunting for. These are prized possessions that are for those who are serious about coin collecting, looking past values in an attempt to simply have coins that make them happy. If you want to have a collection that makes you satisfied and engaged, look into these rare coins and find the ones that you would like to hunt down for your collection.

There is something very special about rare coins. No matter where in the world they came from, they usually have a very rich history and collectors will search to the ends of the earth to find that special rare coin that will complete their collection. Many of these coins will go at a premium price at auction, worth far more than they ever were when they were in circulation. Let’s look at a few of the different types of rare coins.

First up, you have rare coins from ancient civilizations. Whether it was an early coin from Mesopotamia, a Grecian coin or a Roman coin, these are usually the most valuable. However, they are also the ones that may be copied. If you see a lot of coins and the seller claims that they are all authentic, but the price seems too low, you may want to rethink your purchase. Truly ancient rare coins are typically very expensive. It is all too easy nowadays to replicate these coins and mass produce them.

Next, look for coins that are oddly shaped or made from rare materials. This shows that they were handmade and are typically older in origin. These are not very easy to find, but Greek coins are the perfect example of this. These rare coins were handmade and will frequently be just a little off of perfect. Some may even include the maker’s signature or mark, and these are very valuable indeed.

Other rare coins that are fun to collect coincide with specific eras in history. For example, many collectors look for coins produced during the French Revolution. This was the time period when the first Marianne’s were made, and they are incredibly collectible. Other examples would include confederate coins, from the US civil war, or coins that were produced by governments that are now extinct.

Whenever you are shopping for rare coins, it also pays to look for any errors that may be present. These are usually incredibly valuable, and although they are hard to find, it is very special when you do come across one. Examples of error coins include coins that are missing something from a design, or ones that may have blatant errors. Examining coins for these flaws is always interesting.

The rare coins that are the most valuable are usually the ones where only a few are left. Using the Morgan Silver dollar as an example, there is one variety where only a handful are accounted for. This gives collectors a challenge and the ability to experience the thrill of the hunt as they try to uncover that incredibly rare coin.

If you have not yet begun collecting rare coins, it’s a good idea to start thinking about which era or type of coin you might be interested in. For example, many collectors start off by picking the year they were born, or the coin that commemorates an event that is special to them. Once you get started with rare coin collecting, you’ll see just how exciting this hobby can be.

Coins and Paper Money -> Paper Money: US -> Colonial Currency

If you are interested in collecting paper money, Colonial money is one of the hottest tickets going right now. When the first US colonies were formed, the nation and its currency system were still in their infancy. It was decided that paper money would be used, and gradually, currency was printed and distributed for use. Today, colonial money is usually worth much more than its face value, provided that it is original and not a reproduction. Here are some tips on how to tell whether or not you have an authentic piece of colonial history.

1. Check the Signature

Colonial money was always designed to have at least one signature on the note. You may need to look carefully to determine whether or not a signature is present, but if you can’t find even one, chances are you may be dealing with a reproduction. The color of the signature should be in red ink.

2. Is it Numbered?

Colonial money was always numbered to help them keep track of how many bills were in circulation. Once again, if you are dealing with an authentic note the ink color will be red and the number will be very noticeable. Age made have faded the note slightly, but you should be able to tell that the ink was once a red color.

3. Look at the Writing

Typically, colonial money featured a handwritten signature, and some bills may have other handwriting on them as well. This is actually quite important, and is a big clue to the authenticity of the note. If the handwriting is the in the same color as the rest of the bill, there is a very high chance that you are in fact dealing with a reproduction.

4. Look for the Stamp

In most cases, reproductions that are intended merely for home use will carry a stamp that says “facsimile.” This is done to help people get a better idea of the colonial money that was used, but they are not intended to be collector items. While some reproductions may not have this stamp, the majority should.

5. Find the Watermark

Even in the height of the colonial period, when technology still was struggling, watermarks were added to bills to help determine whether or not they were authentic. You can use that same watermark to help you determine whether or not you have authentic colonial money on hand. Hold the bill up to a light source to see if you can spot the watermark. If you can’t chances are you have a reproduction.

6. Take it to an Expert

If you plan on investing in a colonial money note, it is best to have it examined by an expert to determine the authenticity of the note. They will be well versed in the different types of ink, the different plates that were used, as well as how real colonial money should look. There is no substitute for getting an expert’s opinion, especially if you will be investing in colonial money.

The 1925 coin penny is the 3rd rarest copper coin from Australia. According to records from their Royal Mint, this coin was struck late in the year to make sure that Australian merchants had plenty of pennies during the Christmas season. When collectors take an interest in Australian coins, one of the first coins they usually try to acquire is a 1925 penny. While it’s rare, it’s not nearly as rare as the 1930 penny so it’s much easier to find to add to a collection.

Evidence shows that if you have a 1925 coin penny, it was one of the over 117,000 struck a the Melbourne Mint. After World War I ended with many more losses and more expense than Australia anticipated, gold was valuable internationally, but the told pulled from Australia’s mines was dropping. This spoke of trouble for Australia’s economy, so a great deal of gold was imported from London in 1925. This gold was chiefly used to make sovereigns in 1925 at the Melbourne Mint. The Commonwealth offered a bonus to citizens bringing in British silver coins in June of 1925. To replace these large numbers of British coins removed from circulation, they had to strike Australian silver coins to ensure good retail trade through the Christmas season, but they didn’t produce nearly as many as they had only the year before.

The 1925 coin penny is sought by collectors, not just for its rarity, but because there are minor die varieties found in the coin. Records at the Melbourne Mint show that they were experimenting that year with dies and the hardening of dies, and it’s believed that these experiments led to the die variations often found in this coin.

The 1925 coin penny is sometimes found today by searching through bulk quantities of pennies, though finding one of these coins in fantastic condition is rare. When they are found, they go far behind the capabilities of the average collector, as the price has often been record-setting at collector auctions.

If you’re looking for a 1925 coin penny to add to your collection, online coin dealers and auctions like eBay are a great place to look. While the great condition 1925 pennies are extremely rare and extremely valuable, it’s not that difficult to find one in worn condition or very used condition. While these don’t look as good, of course, they’re still quite an addition to a serious world coin collection, or a comprehensive Australian coin collection.

When shopping for a 1925 coin penny, you might find a $1 auction and think you’ve stumbled onto a great deal for the coin you’ve been looking for, but read the fine print carefully. Because of the rarity and value of a fine condition coin, some sellers sell 1925 penny replicas for very little money. If you’d like to have a great condition replica, this is an option. But you can probably find a used 1925 penny for a reasonable price, so you might want to hold out for a genuine coin.

Stamps -> Books and Manuscripts -> Back of Book

United States stamps are fun to collect and you will have many different varieties from which to choose. If you are looking for a hobby for your kids, or you are just interested in US history, these stamps are a great link to our past and a valuable way to learn more about this country. If you want to collect United States stamps, there are a few things to remember. These tips will help you build up a very valuable collection.

1. Consider the Era

Stamps have been produced in America from the colonial period and there are numerous stamps from this time period that can still be found today. Colonial United States stamps are rare finds indeed, as are Confederate stamps. Whether you are interested in collecting for a specific year, or you just need to know which ones to look for, the older the better is true in the majority of cases. Keep your eyes open, you never know what you may find.

2. Think outside the book

There are many valuable United States stamps that were never actually used as stamps. These back of the book stamps, such as Duck Stamps are still quite rare and many of them will bring in thousands of dollars at auction. Although it is always nice to find stamps that were meant for circulation, you should also consider collecting at least a few back of book stamps as well.

3. Special Events Matter

Stamps that are designed to commemorate special events are always quite valuable. For example, the first flight United States stamps are highly sought after and commemorate the Wright Brothers and their contributions to the aviation industry. There are also United States stamps that were printed in honor of certain presidents as well as other public figures and important events that occurred throughout the history of this country. Learning about these stamps can be quite an education.

4. Condition Matters

By far the most valuable United States stamps are the ones that are in pristine condition and were never actually circulated. However, these are rare and may be priced out of reach of the average collector. You can still find some great stamps however if you keep your eyes open. In fact, in many cases, you can get a collection or lot of stamps at auction and discover a rare find right inside.

5. Errors Aren’t a Bad Thing

Although you would think that a United States stamp that was printed poorly or had an error would be worthless, the opposite is actually quite true. There is a huge market for oddity stamps, stamps with errors on them and what collectors refer to as “freaks.” Keep an eye out for stamps that may not look just right – you may have a gold mine on your hands.

FDCs are also very popular stamps and there are literally thousands of United States stamps that are considered to be collectible. Start building your collection today and see what rare finds you can come across.

As a side note, this coin is not only the most valuable in the silver coin category; it is presently the most valuable in the world. As with any coin, there are a few different reasons for the extreme value of the coin. Taking a closer look at these reasons will help you to understand more about coin collecting in general and what factors a coin can have in order to make it one of the most valuable coins available.

Much of what makes the 1804 silver coin so valuable is the rarity of the coin. Only 15 specimens are known to exist. This is out of the less than 20,000 which were originally produced in 1804 and in 1834. The tale of the coin has a lot to do with the value of the coin as does the beauty of the coin. These are just a few of the factors which make the Draped Bust one of the most valuable coins in American history and one of the coins which stands among the most valued in the world.

Rarity of the Coin

The rarity of the silver coin has a lot to do with the value of the coin itself. This is why a coin which has only 15 left in existence is such a valuable coin While many of the coins ended up residing in Siam and Oman, the rest of the coins live in museums like the Smithsonian Institution and the American Numismatic Association Museum. There are only six coins known to exist in private collections. There have been many fakes, but because of the difficulty of reproducing such a coin, most have been discovered.

The Story of the Coin

The original 1804 silver coin was created in 1804 based on the 1803 die. This was a way for the Mint to be able to save money in order to produce the coins which were needed in circulation. Less than 20,000 of these coins were produced making them few in number to begin with. In 1834 the government reused the die but kept the 1804 date. This was confusing to many people. The coins were then given as gifts to Asian countries to thank them for maintaining trade with the United States. Between 1858 and 1860 there were two versions of the coin which were struck by Theodore Eckfeldt. These comprise the Class II and Class III versions of the coin and were not intended to be distributed. All of the class II coins were seized by a handful of the Class III coins got out to the public.

The Beauty of the Coin

The <a href="“>silver coin was created with the intent to look beautiful and its portrayal of lady liberty on the obverse is one of the most striking features. The eagle on the reverse is also quite striking in its use of stars olive branches, arrows and other embellishments.

By far, one of the most endearing collectibles that has become popular over the past few decades are Coca Cola collectibles. This company has done a great job of coming up with many ways to create valuable and memorable products that are highly sought after by collectors. Whether you are looking for a vintage Coca Cola collectible, or you are trying to find a newer one, there are many options that are currently available. Let’s take a look at a few of the most collectible items that are currently on the market.

1. Vintage Bottles

The Coca Cola company has been around for more than 100 years, and as such, there are many different kinds of collectible and vintage bottles in circulation. Bottle collectors will frequently find Coca Cola collectible bottles from before the 1900’s, especially if they are looking around old houses and other areas where these bottles were commonly thrown away. You can also find special vintage bottles that have never been opened, and these are very rare indeed.

2. Polar Bear Collectibles

These are a newer Coca Cola collectible, but they have become very popular. These bears were made famous in the commercials that featured them during the late 1990’s and early part of the 21st century and have since become quite valuable. There are numerous kinds of collectibles that feature these bears, including posters, rugs, jackets and even lamps. While they may not yet be on the same level as the vintage bottles or other figurines, they are quickly gaining ground.

3. Santa Collectibles

Ever since the first Santa character appeared on a Coke can, this figure became one of the most enduring and valuable Coca Cola collectibles. Each year, the Santa figure was drawn a little differently, so there are numerous collectibles that are currently available. You can find them on opened coke cans, old cases, and many other collectible items. This is a popular collectible with those that really love the Christmas season.

4. Collectible Knick Knacks and Other Items

Through the years as Coca Cola collectibles became a hot item, the company began producing numerous novelties. You can find banks, cars, toys and figurines that all bear the Coca Cola seal or represent one of their promotional figures. These are a lot of fun for kids to collect and this is a great way to introduce them to a brand new hobby. Other popular Coca Cola collectibles in this vein include wall clocks, kitchen tables, diner furniture and many other items.

No matter what kind of collectibles you are interested in, from small figurines, to large dinette sets, chances are you’ll be able to find Coca Cola collectibles that match exactly what you are looking for. They are quite easy to find at flea markets, and you can usually come across many valuable items at garage sales or second hand stores. The internet is also a great place to look for Coca Cola collectibles and there are hundreds of online auctions for these products every day.

Some have been more valuable than others. While most collectors are chasing a Morgan Dollar, not as many collectors are chasing down a lead on Eisenhower Dollars. This is because while the Eisenhower issue was only minted for eight years, there are plenty of the coins printed. There are still some years and varieties of the dollar which are more valuable than other copies. It is a good idea for those looking to get a dollar which will be worth something to get to know more about the coin itself.

The first thing you should know about Eisenhower Dollars are the important dates which are related to it. You should also get to know the different styles of the coin which were made available. You should also get to know some of the unique terminology which is used to describe these dollars. This will help you to be more knowledgeable when you seek out the coins to purchase them. It will also help you to have a better idea about the value of the coins you are interested in buying.

The Dates of Minting

The Eisenhower Dollars were only minted for eight years. The dates of the minting included the years 1971 to 1978. In these years, there were varying amounts of coins which were minted. There was also different reasons for the amount of coins and the styles of coins which were minted. For Instance, you will not find any dollars with the date 1975 on them. This is because of the bicentennial coin which was produced during this year and the fact that the date was stamped on as 1776 – 1976.

The Styles Minted

As mentioned above, there were two years in which the Eisenhower Dollars had a bicentennial theme. The reverse on these coins included a liberty bell in front of the moon rather that the familiar Apollo 11 insignia which the coin is well known for. In the years 1971 to 1972 there were no proof sets which were made available to collectors. They instead had to get their copper-nickel clad issues directly from circulation. This is because the silver clad proofs were the only ones were offered uncirculated to the collectors. In 1973, only the copper-nickel clad issues were available in proofs.

The Unique Terminology

The proofs of the Eisenhower Dollars were distributed in a highly unique manner. Those which were sold as uncirculated to collectors were enclosed in cellophane bag that had a blue plastic token in a blue envelope. These were thus dubbed ‘Blue Ikes’. The proofs which were sold were contained in a plastic case that enclosed the proof set. The plastic was encased in a brown box that served as a slipcase. The box was given a wood grain finish and was aptly dubbed ‘Brown Ikes’. These sets sold for $3 and $10 respectively when they were issued. As you can see, they have gone up considerably since then.

While some have been able to get their faces on large currency or large coins, Benjamin Franklin got his face on Franklin Half Dollars. This is not to say that the half dollars are worth only that know. In fact, you will find that the coins have become rather valuable ever since the last coin was minted in 1963. There are some which are more valuable than others. Here is a closer look.

The first thing you will need to know about the Franklin Half Dollars is what you will find on the obverse and reverse. You will also need to know what errors have been made with the series which have caused the coin to become more valuable. It is also good to know what mints were Minting the coin and their significance with the coin itself. While Franklin might not have been alive to see his face on the Half Dollar, he would have been proud to have seen such a brilliant coin created just for him.

A Look at the Faces

There are two faces to the Franklin Half Dollars. The obverse (head) has the profile of Franklin along with his neck and shoulders. The Reverse (tail) has the Cracked Liberty Bell. It is possible to find the proofs which were available for this coin because of the recent run of the coin. It was run from 1948 to 1963. While it might seem that the most valuable of the series is the oldest, it is actually the error coins which are worth the most because they have been reclaimed when possible by the government to get them out of circulation.

Errors in Production

There were a few different errors made in the striking of the Franklin Half Dollars. One of the most notable of the errors occurred when the obverse and reverse dies hit each other with no coin between them. The result is what is called the Bugs Bunny Error. This is an error on the obverse on the 1955 coin which makes it appear that Franklin has a split lip giving him the appearance of pronounced front teeth. Another error occurred on the 1961-P Proof where the Proof was double died.

Minting the Coin

The majority of these coins have been reclaimed by the government so that they could be melted down and reminted. This is because the amount of silver used in the coin made the coin worth more than the amount which was printed on the face of the Franklin Half Dollars. Those who have an error printed 1955-P have a real treasure because it is the kind of error that even the most layman can see that the split lip was not intentional on the face of Franklin. It never should have even seen the light of day before being melted and recast.

One of the options for coin collecting that you may want to consider if you enjoy unique coins is the art of collecting proof coins and uncirculated coins, which are coins that are not or have never been in actual use as currency in this country or any other country in the world for that matter. If the idea of proof coins and uncirculated coins seems worthwhile to you, the following information will prove useful.

There are a number of coins out there that never ended up being placed in circulation to be used for the purpose of commerce. This coin grade never had any wear or any defects meaning that these coins can be close to mint in condition. If you store these coins improperly, however, they can be worn and will no longer be in perfect condition any longer. Even if the wear is quite minor in nature, it will not allow the coin to have an “uncirculated” grade any longer.

When coins are first produced at the mint, they are placed into large canvas bags so that they can be transported. During the handling and transport phase, they can receive some small nicks and marks from rubbing and bumping along one another in the bags, and these marks are specifically known as bag marks. Bag marks tend to appear much more noticeable when the coin is larger in sized, such as a dollar or a half dollar coin. Typical bag marks will not prevent a coin from keeping the uncirculated grade. Light bag marks will not keep a coin from being considered to be uncirculated, but they may change the value that the coin receives if they are more noticeable bag marks.

Uncirculated coins are also capable of showing spotting, tarnish and discoloration while still maintaining the uncirculated grade when it comes to coin conditions. You should never clean a coin that has become tarnished as many methods of cleaning are actually capable of causing further wear on a coin, and this wear will upset the “uncirculated” grade of the coin.

There are also coins known as proof coins that were minted with the use of highly polished dies and never saw the light of day in terms of circulation. Just like with uncirculated coins, these proof coins are capable of experiencing darkening or tarnishing. Because labor and production costs went into producing proof coins beyond average coins, the mints that produce them quite often will sell them at a higher premium price, and often in much more limited numbers as well.
