Learning how to buy sports memorabilia and collect sports memorabilia is something that can be both profitable and enjoyable at the same time. What are officially licensed products?

These are products that have come to be because a professional athletic association has granted permission to a company to display a team logo, name or trademark on a product. When you have the certified signature from a professional athlete on your collectible sports memorabilia, then what you have is a limited edition autographed piece of sports memorabilia. These signatures can appear on baseball cards, pictures, jerseys, balls and any other piece of memorabilia or equipment. The signature absolutely must be certified in order for the memorabilia to be worth anything, so when you buy sports memorabilia, make sure that you are getting the piece verified before you purchase it in order to verify its authenticity.

How are items appraised?

3 – The age of an item also matters. The item’s age can definitely play a role in determining its value as well as whether or not it is real or fake. Make sure that an item shows the proper age based on what it is if you want your memorabilia appraisal to be accurate.

4 – Fourth is the condition of an item, another thing that plays a large role in your memorabilia appraisal since used items will determine their value in comparison to new ones. Banged up pieces are not going to be worth as much as newer pieces unless they were banged up by a sports great.

5 – The subject matter is the fifth and final category of criteria for your memorabilia appraisal.

Shooting scripts and director scripts are typically worth more than the first draft of a movie script, unless the author is very well known. If you do come across a first edition script from a well known screenwriter, you’ll still be getting a very good value for your money.

If you have a favorite movie that you will never forget, or if you are a collector of memorabilia, finding movie props can be an amazing experience. There are numerous studios that release special movie props after filming and you can also find some truly remarkable props at auction. However, if you are looking for originals, there are a few things to keep in mind before you turn over your cash.

There is quite a business in reproduction movie props and although the average person may not be able to tell them apart, there is a great difference in value when compared to an original. If you are collecting for investment purchases, it is vital to make sure that you are dealing with an original and authentic movie prop. Otherwise, you are just wasting your money. While sentimental value does count for something, no one likes ending up with something that they thought was authentic, only to find out is was worthless.

Since movie props are so popular, there is a large demand for these items. For example, following the release of the movie Titanic in 1997, there was a scramble not only for the original sapphire necklace worn by the lead actress, but numerous fakes and reproductions popped up. While the reproductions were stunning to look at it, they were worth much less than the original.

It is not easy to find authentic and original movie props, but those that live in Hollywood or near filming locations can usually end up with some amazing finds. The best place to find these props is usually at a studio sanctioned auction, but you may be able to find a rare deal from a private collector. Before you do however, here’s what you need to look for.

1. Certificate of Authenticity

The movie props that are released by the studio will generally come with a certificate. Now, there is an exception to this rule, mainly due to stars that took home props, added them to their private collection and they later ended up at auction. These usually have a story that goes along with them however to supply authentication.

2. Who is the Dealer?

If you are dealing with a known provider of authentic movie props, you can usually be assured that you will be getting originals. Steer clear of sellers that have no reputation or feedback in the industry since the chances of getting stuck with a reproduction are very high in these cases. This is particularly true if they cannot produce a certificate of authenticity.

With care, you can purchase original movie props from your favorite films. Pay attention to auctions because you never know when something rare may pop up. Original movie props offer you the ability to take part in something that may have touched you, made you laugh or made you cry. You owe it to yourself to make sure that it is an authentic prop. With a little effort, you can easily make sure you are buying the real thing.

One of the types of Walt Disney Collectibles that is available to you is Walt Disney Classics Collection or WDCC, which was originally introduced in the year 1992 at a collectibles show known as South Bend Collectible Show. Three years of work went into the creation of this collection of Disney figurines that involved the input of numerous Disney sculptors and animation artists. The Walt Disney Collectibles were designed to closely resemble all of the animated counterparts that they were based on. These particular Walt Disney Collectibles offer incredible detail work and the figurines are created out of porcelain. The first three figures that were released in this collection of Walt Disney Collectibles were scenes that came straight out of the Bambi movie, the Cinderella movie and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from the Fantasia movie.

They have been produced for over a decade and many have become retired in this period of time. With each and every single retirement, the molds are really and truly broken, and what this does is ensures that additional characters will never be created again using these same molds. Some Walt Disney Collectibles are also issued with numbers as limited editions. It should be noted that the Disney company avoids starting off their numbers with the number one. All of these Walt Disney Collectibles carry a specific back stamp that indicates what year the figurine was produced in. Each of these Walt Disney Collectibles is also going to be issued with a COA or Certificate of Authenticity.

Only a year after the Walt Disney Collectibles debuted, Disney introduced a club for collectors that was designed to be an adjunct to the collection. Members of the Walt Disney Collectors Society pay $50 per year to join and they get a free figurine from the club every year as well as access to numerous additional members only Walt Disney Collectibles, a newsletter, a magazine subscription and an annual catalog of the Walt Disney Collectibles offered by the collection. In 1993, the special membership sculpture was a Jiminy Cricket from the Pinocchio movie. The Walt Disney Collectibles market is managed by Enesco, a licensee by Disney. Some of the more original staff members within Disney still work on maintaining the Walt Disney Collectibles club.
